2nd opinions required please
Hi most knowledgable forum,
I was recently involved in a RTC on the M25 and the report from the garage is the bike is an 'uneconomical repair' They didn't go into any details just 'its fucked'. I asked what would be required to put it back to on the road and the answer was 'lots' possible frame damage, twisted swing arm etc etc... in short, take your old little bike and leave us alone.
Needless to say I duly asked for it to be dropped off so I could arrange the dismemberment and selling of the parts.
It arrived this morning and although I am no mechanic I cant see any frame damage, or evidence of twisted swing arms or much damage at all apart from needing a new right rear set, number plate and brake lever?

the link above is the photos I have taken this morning.
I would like to know if the garage is correct = scrap it,
or
if the damage is repairable = fix it
The bike fell onto its right hand side and was pushed down the road hence the scrapping on the engine cover.

Drop the engine out then try and put it back in, your soon know if something is a miss. Other than that strip it and have it checked.
What do you want to happen with it? if your offered a nice payout it'll be worth buying it back and re-framing it.

It's hard to completely tell from pictures if the frame/swingarm is bent but it looks ok to me. I can't really spot anything out of line. Are your wheels straight and do they line up?

Re: 2nd opinions required please
frames are cheap. you can easily get one and reframe it.
I bought a bike that was in a car<>moto argment. Looked OK and was all set to be the basis of my race bike. When I replaced the heads and tried to get it all back together it was obvious the cradle that holds the motor was not straght (it has also snapped off an engine mount)
SO, get it back, get it in bits, rebuild it and be happy!

get a man with a van and take it for an MOT and see if they pick anything up.
but agreed engine out and back in soon shows if somethings a bit pissed.
or flog it as is, as a racer project for £500

She who must be obeyed wants to get rid of 'the death trap' but I think (maybe incorrectly) its worth more sold as a complete working bike than in parts.
To be honest I don't really know what I want to do with it, I think I have sunk enough £££ into it over the years to have brought myself a brand new VFR800 and feel I would be foolishly throwing more money into the same hole. I don't want to cut my losses and run but don't know how much longer I can justify paying out for a noisy 17yr old that doesn't like early mornings

I think I have 2 options (unless you can suggest a third)
1. replace the damaged bits and see if it passes an MOT
>yes, I have my bike again
>no, sell for parts
2. sell complete as 'project bike' or dismantle for the vultures
>would it be worth more complete or as parts?
I have drilled the carbs and replaced the needles with RO bits and done the white dial mod.

1. Do the minimum to get it to the MOT station.
2. If nothing major, price up the required MOT and damaged parts, secondhand if possible.
3. Depending on 2, sell as is or put back together.
4. If/when completed, then decide to A. keep, or B. sell.
Dave.

I can't honestly believe your bke has frame damage. If frame is damaged then surely the forks would be too, and they look pretty staight to me. Agree in the dropping motor out and trying to put it back. You can pick up a frame for £50 and weigh in yours for scrap aluminium.
If you want to move it on there'd be load of interest in an ebay auction as it is. Mention project and plenty will bid with the intention of making it good again.

How hard can it be?

Re: 2nd opinions required please
thanks for the input guys,
I think I'll go with arsey30/Dave and then geoff33 depending on the outcome, I have already had some PM's after the exhaust and carbs....
