Will not stay in Neutral
I have just purchased a 1991 NC30.
The bike is not running yet as I am in the process of removing the carbs for a clean.
When I select neutral and roll the bike forward a small distance the bike goes back into gear.
The neutral light is also not coming on.
Any ideas?
Craig

Just a thought but if the previous owner had reversed the gear shift you might be trying to find neutral between 5th & 6th?

When in gear the bike will roll about 20cm forwards to backwards. How far does it go and is there a clunk as it goes into gear?

The rear wheel will do approximately 1/2 rotation before it goes out of neutral.

Re: Will not stay in Neutral
try clicking the lever up while rolling the bike forwards from the bottom most gear, should get you neutral, sounds like the bike is still in gear, rather than popping out of neutral

Done that before!Daz H wrote:Just a thought but if the previous owner had reversed the gear shift you might be trying to find neutral between 5th & 6th?

Make sure that the punch mark on the gearbox spline is lined up with the punch mark on the lever, it may not shift into neutral properly if it's out by too much.

Me too, I put my race bike shift on in the conventional 1 down 5 up then sat in the paddock looking like a right noob!Cammo wrote:Done that before!

Dazh, Cammo and all,
Thank you for all your help. The shifter was on upside down and neutral was between 4 and 5!!!
Removed the linkage, lined up the dots and all is well.
Thank you again.
Now for the carbs.

Re: Will not stay in Neutral
Glad you're sorted, I once did the same and my missus suggested that maybe it was between 5th and 6th. I jumped down her throat telling her not to be so daft. Of course when I realised she was right I was big enough to admit it to her.................
How hard can it be?
