CBR400 NC23 dropped, advice please.

Post by angry_rob » Tue Jan 11, 2011 11:17 am

Hi guys, I'll start by saying it wasn't actually dropped but reversed into on the exhaust side meaning it went over on the stand side, needless to say the left side of the bike is pretty damaged and I'm hoping it's only cosmetic. I would just like some advice on what to check over, there's the obvious physical damage but is there anything internally that could have been damaged from it falling on itself, I had a lot of trouble starting it afterwards. I know the person who did it and so I don't really want to get insurance companies involved, no doubt they would just write the poor thing off anyway.

I'll be taking it to a bike shop that my dad knows a guy at for them to check it over, but I'd still like to learn and do some of the stuff myself.

Thanks in advance and keep a look out for me in the wanted section, I'll be needing bits and bobs.

You should be ok, there shouldn't be any damage other than what you can see externally. Check the engine cover as that probably would've hit the ground. The main thing is that the engine wasn't running when it was on it's side (sounds like you were parked up with engine not running?), although they tend to cut out anyway. Trouble starting up afterwards should just be the fuelling, I lowsided my tri-arm on track last year and it was the same.

I'm with wozza on this one. Check the engine cover for damage! My first NC23 had a very small hole in the nearside casing from where the owner before me had dropped the bike.. Other than that if the engine was switched off I honestly can't see any damage internally being done.

Hope that helps,
Adam.

Yeah the bike had been parked up for quite a while. I've had a good look at the bike today and it seems like it's going to be OK, got it running and it idled fine after a while so I'm sure you are right about the fuelling. Lots of money to be spent on getting it back up to standard though, the annoying thing is that the left side was pristine and original so I'm gutted about that. Keep an eye out in the wanted section, thanks for the quick replies. :peace:

What colours are the fairings? I have some RWB originals I'm thinking of selling.

My bike is this colour scheme:

But from what's happened I think I'm just going to go the whole shibang and get the T9 tyga kit, it's a good excuse to get it... at least that's what I'll keep telling myself.
