Hey everyone,

Have finally got the bike in a position where i can begin work on it. Its in need of very little restoration and most of additions i will be making are purely for the purposes on enhancing performance and not necessarily restoring it as such.

And so, ive read that an RS250 rear shock is a straight swap but that some have used a CBR600RR shock also.

Is the CBR600RR shock a direct replacement?? And is it only specific model years that are applicable.

Also, in terms of front brake calipers. Is the general consensus to replace them with SP1/SP2 calipers but to use the SP2 master cylinder as it has a better feel.

Engine will be left standard apart from a HRC CDi and full/half system. Ideally Tyga but ill consider anything reputable like Ethos, Arata etc

No shock from another bike is a "straight swap" as such - there is always something that needs doing even if its minor.

The RS250 shock needs to be re-sprung, set up & the 600RR shock needs set up & a battery box modification to allow for the res - i think they both require shimming???

The caliper thing is a matter of what you like, i have an sp1 set up with braided lines & a fireblade 929 / 954 m/cylinder but some people prefer a standard set up thats been rebuilt or set up correctly with quality pads.

As far as your engine goes, if you're going down the hrc cdi & exhaust route, you'll be getting those carbs off & sorted to suit, or all your money will be wasted on a poor fueling set up.

I would also suggest getting the Rick Oliver GSXR genny conversion, very very good upgrade.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with the HRC CDI - keeping in mind that they work best with the whole HRC kit, engine and all. IMO you'd be better off spending the cash on suspension or a full exhaust system.

I would start on suspension. brakes and tyres.

suspension: depending on your budget
Brakes: calipers swap mentioned is a good purchase, with bigger master cylinder
tyres: depends on how/where you ride and how you like them to feel

After these give you confidence in your bike then think of exhaust and sprockets

I done these and more upgrades but all in the wrong order, and trully wished i went in that order to start with. I couldnt appreciate the benefits of engine upgrades until the handling was better suited for me. just my opinion
