The 'Rubber Flap'

Post by GCD » Sat Dec 04, 2010 8:28 am

I have been reading all about the rubber that redirects air away from the carburetors. My bike does not have one and does not run properly in high revs.

I cannot get my hands on a rubber flap, so today I managed to buy some thin engineering rubber to make my own. The problem is I do not really know what they look like, or what the dimensions are. Can anyone help with this. Can you post a picture and/or give me the dimensions? I am downloading a Hanes manual at the moment, so pointing me to the right section here would help also. Cheers.

Hi.

Have you asked on here for one? Have you contacted geoff33?

He might have one! Rather than make one mate I'd try and find one!

As it really does make a difference my bike was running awful at the top end a real dip in revs but the rubber flap cured it!

:plus: Grab the real deal (at that price!). It looks like an under-engineered piece of rubber/plastic, but makes or breaks the fueling on these fussy little bikes.

Thanks for the picture, now I know what I am supposed to be looking for. Reading through the forums there also seems to be another rubber cover that go down over the top of the cams. Is this needed as well?

Cheers for the help.

Ok, took it for a good run today with my newly made rubber flap..... runs a lot better but still will not pull to redline in 5th and 6th. I running a 17' RVF wheel, a 40tooth rear and 15tooth front. It did not pull to redline in 4th before but now does, so a slight improvement. I have managed to order a original rubber flap, so next weekend.....lets see.

Do your bikes redline in 5th? Mine would not go above 12,000rpm in 5th or 6th.

Hi use the original flap then see how it runs!

What exhaust system are you running? Jet sizes, needle heights?

All play a part!

You should be able to redline it in 6th with 15/40 gearing, even more so with a 17" wheel, get the proper flap in there.
