will not start
hi after some friendly advise if anyone can help my 1988 nc23 has been playing up,,,it will not strt unless i bump it,,or try to several times which is normally followed by a backfire from the exhaust ,,the engine sounds like its turning over lovely but wont seem to fire. If it stalls after running the problem still pursist,,,ii have changed the red reck and charged the battery any clues would be good thanks

you say you charged the battery, but is it ok or knackered, i had the same problem on my last 88 nc23, it was the reg/rec..just a thought..ted

yeh battery charged and the red reck seems fine,,,putting new plugs in tomorrow hopefully but is getting frustrating

Mine did this many times and it was a dirty neutral switch connection

Its bottom left, on the engine sump near the sidestand switch, be aware oil wil come flooding out if you remove it, so stick a big enough dish under to catch the oil, be quick cleaning it or have a small bolt ready to stem the flow. Prepare to add more oil as needed after you put the switch back. If you can't find the sidestand switch, don't worry too much.....there isn't one!
