help with RVF indicator issue

Post by ludacris » Wed Nov 17, 2010 5:51 am

ok so i haven't had any indicators hooked up to the bike for a bit but even when i pushed left or right on the switch i could hear the on/off click sound and the green indicator light would flash so today i decided to test out some new mirrors with indicators...

i connected the first one no problems and it flashed away as normal...i went to connect the second one and got a mini spark and the result of that was no indicators...the first one i connected wouldn't light up anymore, the green indicator light won't flash, the click sound is not present anymore...the fuse is fine, its not split and there's no discolouration..

so just wondering whats the go? have i short circuited the turn signal wiring? fried the relay? or would it be more likely the handlebar switch is gone?

cheers.

Are they LED indicators?

If so you can't just plug them in and get them to work.

they are LED

that's a bit odd, LEDs normally work but just flash at a faster rate without resistors (i have resistors but just didn't connect them up between the bike and the mirrors)...

i don't think that would explain why all turn signal related parts have stopped working?

Most bikes yes, but not on nc's from what I remember. LED's did funny things when I fitted them to my nc30. It took quite a few mods to get them to work properly.

This is what I had to do to get them working on my nc:

But you are correct, you might have fried the relay if you shorted something. It could have harmed the relay, fuse or switch, not much else.

Erm..... have you checked the fuse? Sounds like you could have blown it by shorting. I doubt shorting would have blown the switch or relay as it would take quite a whack of current to do that.

i know this is an old post but i have just done the exact same thing with my rvf, getting no response from anything on the indicator circuit after installing LED rear indicators. the thing is i already had LED indicators on the front and it worked fine. i am wondering how you got on with it... i really dont want to drop more on a relay if i dont have to is there any way to test for this? if its fine i might just get some bulb indicators. i hate wiring.
