I've got the front wheel off to remove the wheel bearings I have looked at the Haynes manual but still seems difficult.
Anyone got any hints or tips? Tools used etc.
Thanks

It's straight forward enough, but can be tricky if they are the original bearings. Remove the discs. And prise off the bearing dust seals. Then get some sort of drift, I used an old extension socket bar! You need to drive one side out from the other side making sure hitting the bearing and not the alloy spacer or the shoulder on the wheel (if you know What I mean)then remove the alloy spacer flip the wheel over and drive the other one out! Fitting is the same, but make sure it's clean and use plenty of grease. And try and get a socket the exact diameter of the bearing to use to tap the bearing past edge of th wheel.
Good luck,
Any probs come back to us!

Cheers ibby gonna have a go later on. I've managed to borrow a brass drift rod off my grandad so that should hopefully do the trick. The wheels will then be going to have Tyres removed and then off to the powdercoaters OIF in Oxford.

I got a great tip a few years ago, and it works really well.
get yourself a couple of these from the DIY shop, they are bolts with a metal rawl plug..

Place in the centre of the bearing and tighten up, you can then use a drft to easily knock out the bearing from the other side

Right i can already see this turning into a pain in the ass job. I can only get about 1mm of lip on the bearing race to locate the brass drift. I guess this is normal. Every time i tap it with the hammer it just then slips off and the bearing doesn't budge.

. Should the end of the drift (8mm Brass Rod) be pointed or flat to aid grip?
wangwang - Might be a possibility if i can find one that will open enough to grip the bearing.
Any other suggestions?

Make sure you try to remove the right hand side bearing first, as the spacer has more room to move within the hub, the left side has a close fitting locating hole.
I use a 3/8" socket extension bar.

Gents thanks for your input after my third attempt I managed to remove the bearings and spacer using a 3/8 extension. I found with my brass rod I couldn't get enough surface area on the race.
Thanks again
Jack
