NC23 race bike with 29 electrics?

Post by tfr125 » Fri Oct 22, 2010 5:20 pm

I am intending building a second race bike over the winter. I have the chance of a cheap NC23, but wondered if anyone has built/run a hybrid of the the 23 and 29. The bike would have a 23 frame and engine, but 29 race loom and HRC CDI with 29 carbs. Pretty sure someone has already run 29 carbs on a 23 (Stimpy?) but will the 29 loom,CDI and coils work with the 23 ignition pickups?

Any help/tips much appreciated

I have modified nc29 carbs on my 23 at the mo and they are great but I would have thought that an nc29 loom and cdi wouldnt work with an nc23 but I may be wrong.

Why do you want to use nc29 cdi etc with the 23? You could make your own race loom and then run a programmable cdi such as an ignitech one.

The 23 has two ignition pickups.
Im not 100% on the position of these, but if one was in the same poisiton (i.e. 0 degrees) then you could just use that one.

But +1 on what yakama says, I think a few chaps on here have made there own race looms, better than trying to get another loom modded to fit a different bike.

Thanks for the replies guys. Reason for using the 29 loom and CDI box is I have them spare. Just thought if someone had already run this set up it would mean zero expense!! Do you use the throttle position sensor on the 23 with 29 carbs? (this was another reason for using the 29 loom,as it already has the TPS wiring)

No tps is not used for the modded 29 carbs. They just need modified so that they fit the 23 airbox. Mine has been fiberglassed so that it fits (not by me it was that way when I got it) then you run 29 throttle and cables and bobs your uncle

We actually do this in reverse - NC23 electrics onto the NC29 - but in the other direction - fit an NC29 trigger - the one bolted to the starter clutch - NC29 CDI - modify the NC23 loom - or modify an NC29 loom for the NC23 clocks and away you go.

Simples ...

Way better - just fit a CBR600 88 Dyna 2000 system to the NC23 - works well for us.

What mods do you need to do to fit the Dyna 2000 system?

Cheers

No mods - just fit the kit exactly as per the Dyna instructions - uses std NC23 LHS cover - just time it all up carefully with a nice big accurate timing disk.

Real easy - plus on the fly external switchable rev limit / ignition curve change.
