NC30 exhaust studs

Are all (2 per header) the exhaust studs on NC30s removable? Mine is an 89 bike and when I removed the original exhaust headers from the front cylinder, 1 stud on each header stayed fixed to the head where the other came out with the bolt.

Basically I've snapped one of the studs that stayed in the head and need to remove it to replace it but I'm not sure if it's removable. Does anyone know whether they all come out?

Yes I'm sure they do
On my nc35 same thing happened to me one stud stayed in and other came out
I also broke a stud so I had to drill it and use easy outs but I can't remember of the other stud stayed in or came out

Yes they should all be removable. Same thing happened to me when I removed my exhaust on my NC23.

If there is anything of the stud still showing try soaking it in WD40 for a while and then try and remove it by clamping on some mole grips as tight as possible, worked for me.

rick, spray it with WD40, G85, or parafin, drill a small hole in the middle of it and smack a torx bit into the hole and use a big knuckle/breaker bar and slowly easy it out.

it will work have paitence.

I've sprayed it with Plus Gas and always planned to try to remove it once I knew it actually comes out. It will be the mole grip method though as I don't have a drill. It may come out fairly easily, I haven't tried to remove it previously as until i snapped it as I was just going to stick a new bolt on it when I fiited my new exhaust.

It looks like as I was tightening up the Tyga system I overtightened the bolt on the stud on the opposite side of the header causing an imbalance and the flange just sheared this stud clean off. I'll make sure I tighten them up more evenly next time.

ok rick, good luck, i used m6 threaded rod cut to length rather than being raped on the cost of new studs,

if the molegrips dont work buy a drill, nothing worse than an engine with tapped out holes and bigger studs!

Tried with mole grips most of the evening without success

There is only about 5 mm of stud sticking out so I couldn't get to grips with it properly. Will maybe try again but after applying some heat. If that fails I'll need to get me a drill though I'm not liking my chanches of successfully drilling a hole through a mashed up 5mm long, 8mm exhaust stud.

i have been thinking about this recently and wonder why honda use this system. Haven't had a 400 yet that hasn't suffered from this. i think going forward im gonna use a normal stainless steel bolt.
thoughts?

I'm definitely the wrong person to ask. Personally if I get this one out I will replace it with a stud as I already have bought a load from David Silver Spares and I'm hoping to never have to replace the exhaust on this bike again but if I do, hopefully me applying copaslip to everything with a thread should mean no more seizing.

Yeah it's a nightmare I've got mine to do this week. Hopefully a bit of heat might shift it! The only thing left is sawing it off flush then drilling it out and re-threading I doubt an easy-out will do it!!
Keep the slim exhaust nuts though . Honda don't make them anymore and Dave silvers had run out of stock a month ago!
