Hi there,

This is a total noob question but I have an RVF 400 and today I went and picked up new spark plugs - NGK Iridium CR9EHIX-9. I wanted the plugs which are in the Haynes manual NGK ER9EH but they were out of them.
Are the CR9EHIX-9 plugs alright to use? There are no markings on the box which tell me what the electrode gap is but the Haynes manual states thast the gap must be between 0.6 to 0.7mm.

Just want to know if the plugs I bought are alright or if I should take them back and order the other one's.
Don't want to put the wrongs plugs in a screw things up.

Hi, The plugs you have got will not fit in the cylinder head as the threads are too big. You will need to change them to the ER9EH

They won't work. There 10mm plugs, they'll fit a Kawasaki 400 though.. :-)

You need the 8mm plugs (which are also pricey)

Best to mail order a set from RB Imports they have them in stock (you'll be waiting an eternity for them to come in anyweher else).

They are pricey expect a shock the first time you buy them.

I knew when I was speaking to the tit at the bike store that they were wrong but he insisted that they were the right one's.
Going back there tomorrow and changing them.
Just had the carbs balanced and the valve clearances done and I just want to wack in new spark plugs as when I put the bike on the dyno, it wasn't a smooth curve all the way through - slight drop at 6000rpms and got a bit choppy from 10 - 14000. I think it needs to be either rejetted or new plugs put in - hope it's the latter

the dip at 6000 rpm you might be able to make better by raising the needles with a 0.5mm shim, this will make the mid-range slightly richer as they often go lean aroud here.

Excellent, thanks for that info. I'm not overly fazed by it but my curious mind needed to know. I'm very appreciative of the advice and help I get on this forum

Well, it's going to be 25 degrees today and tomorrow so the warm weather is starting to arrive and I'll get to clock up some nice trips on the bike
