help please, carb problem. bike wont run right..

Post by suzbug » Sun Aug 29, 2010 8:58 am

Hi guys.
Can anybody shed any light or suggestions, I am getting the bike ready for an mot for the first time in 5 years, its an nc24.
When it starts it revs very high, about 8k rpm. I've turned down the idle screw until it isn't even acting on the throttle linkage. The carbs are fitted nicely to the runners and the rubber are in good condition.
Could this be the mixture? And how do I adjust it? Has anybody got Any pictures to show me where the screws are?

Any help is really appreciated as I really really need the bike to pass its mot Tuesday!

Dont' do any of those NC30 mods to your carbs.

8000rpm.. is your choke stuck on?

If you look at the carbs you'll see the choke mechanisim and how it pulls choke rods out of the carbs.. make sure when you turn the choke off they go back into the carbs.

When you back the idle screw out does the throttle move? You chould have sticking throttle cables.

If you take the airbox off and lift one of the slides up are the butterflys all closed?

Oh I thought I'd wrote that.. yes air-leak will make your revs stay high!

Since you mention the cables dont' move check that your throttle cables arn't sticking

Hi guys.
Sorry for the delay in reply, laptop won't connect to web and im using my phone.

All your suggestions were fantastic, but it was a mix of all those pros!
Oct had the carbs off and back on a few times, I stripped and cleaned the carbs.. still not right
Then, I figured it out!
The carbs were twisting when I fitted them into the rubber! This meant that when closing off the throttle, these carbs from right shut off but the other three butterflies remained slightly open allowing the engine to rev!
It had me stumped for some time but I managed to get it sorted.
And I'm glad to say it.has passed its.not about an hour ago!
Thanks gift your suggestions acnd. Help guys!
Appreciated
