Need to change my front fork seals quite urgently as one fork has pretty much lost all oil and is now bottoming out , this is the last job in the rebuild I have done before its back on the road ( should have done it sooner ) , but does anybody know if you can hire front end yolk stands , or do you have to buy them at enormous expense , as if it is the case then i may as well take it to a mechanic !

What i did with my bike (Yamaha fzr400), i actually stood my bike on some axle stands, bottom fairing needs to be off obviously, on the bottom frame rails it was rock steady and able to remove the forks easily. hope this helps.

I used lorry-type ratchet straps around the headstock & my garage rafters?

Mates bike & garage, fork seals gone.... they seem to go hard if the bike isn't used for a while?

The exhaust stops you putting a trolley jack underneath with a bit of wood between the frame tubes....

Another answer would be one of the front yoke mount type front paddock stands?

I used a mixture of axle stands and bits of two by four cut to length and jammed under the engine, held it up solid

Plenty to go on thanks , my fairing is a Skidmarkz replacement and is an absolute b*****d to get fitted right so I will try to avoid that option if poss , but some interesting ideas to go on none the less , checked with some local bike shops just in case and their rates are ridiculous - legalized extortion or what !!

I don't mind £25p/h at the little workshop down the road, but £75p/h at a dealers in town is a bit ott.
How's the finish on the skidmarx fairings out of interest? I've heard mixed reviews.

The finish aint that bad to be fair but they are a mare to get together , I have spent hours filing away to get better fits on the various panels , I'm still not 100% happy but I have done about a much as I can on them

Anyway have found a local mechanic to supply and fit new oil seals for £85 + vat , i think i will give him a go cos it will save me loads of grief , and while its there I will get it in for an mot too
