NC30 1990 STANDARD CARB SET UP
Hi guys and girls,
I have just got my hands on the bike but it has serious running problems, it started on choke today no problem at all but when warm it stalled and failed to srtart again.
I have stripped the carbs off and serviced them, I followed the tips on this site so should be good lol (made sure all settings/jets are standard), however before I fit the carbs back on is there a way of setting the carbs up or at least check they are operating in the correct sense!
I have operated them on my bench and have found that there is a bit of play in the throttle mechanism from the initial input lever to the final throttle plunger, is this normal? or should they be set up as close as possible so that they all open up together or front body first followed by the rear?.
One more thing is the float set up, I have read a few threads talking about float set ups but have not founf the thread relating to carrying this out.
Thanks for the help in advance peeps.

This is the way to do it with the carbs off the bike, I've never balanced them any other way (on 3 nc30's), it's much easier.
Remove the carbs. Use a very small drill bit, or other tool (e.g. wire) to use to adjust the throttle butterflies to the same opening.
Using the idle adjustor, wind it until the drill bit (or other reference tool) just fits under the throttle butterfly in the first (reference) carb (see haynes for more info). From here you pretty much follow the order in the haynes manual, adjusting each other throttle butterfly to match the reference carb, using the drill bit to ensure all butterflies match.
Once you've done it the first time it's very easy. Not a true balance, but the results will be very similar for half the trouble.

Thanks Hunter, do you mean that I adjust the lead butterfly slightly of it's seat, then adjust all other butterfly's to match the lead?

I did my 35 carbs this way, and they seem pretty good. if you want it perfect then you need to put it on a dyno. but getting it set this way first will save you lots of dyno time and cash. If the bike is just for road use then i am sure it will be fine

An NC is for life, not just for Christmas!

Thanks for the reply skinnydog, but do I set the butterfly's just off(slightly open) or can I set them up closed?

Re: NC30 1990 STANDARD CARB SET UP
The end result I take it is that all butterfly's are synchronised and that they actually open together and shut off together, I will set them up as you stated, thanks peeps.

Re: NC30 1990 STANDARD CARB SET UP
And the float setting is.
Set the float heights to 6.8mm (measured from base of carb)
