I have noticed for a little while now, that when riding my bike for long distances during darkness my engine would idle lower and lower to the point where i have to turn the lights off at traffic lights or blip the throttle.
When riding the bike at (any revs) if i were to flash the high beam the bikes power would noticeably drop.
If i am to start the bike the following morning after returning home at night (using the lights) the bike will start fine.
So i assume the battery is holding charge, and is being charged too.
Any body had this fault before and would i be correct in thinking it's a fault of the rectifier before going out and buying one :)

Aye, test the reg rec and also test the output of the generator

I would guess the genny is on the way out.

Resistance checks across the 3 yellow wires will show any shorting or damage in there.

Out put on AC Volts will show power - should be 50V AC or thereabouts...

Stupid question.... Is the reg/rec the same unit but referred to with two different names?
Or are the two separate units? :D

the regulator/rectifier is one and the same piece of kit. It rectifies the AC voltage into DC and regulates the output to the battery...

just as suspected, regulator / rectifier both basically have the same definitions.
Hope it's an easy fix, it's a little embarrassing having to turn the lights off waiting at traffic lights, and the bike does seem to occasionally lack some power, yet it will always start with out any fuss cold or hot. If i can't find any faults with the Reg/Rec i'll just replace it any way, as the battery always holds charge (for weeks before the previously mentioned faults occur)
It's bound to be an intermittent fault with the Reg / Rec........ I hope :)
