Steel Downpipes

Post by paul clevs » Fri Jul 30, 2010 1:28 pm

Hey guys n dolls
Hi to you all, i`ve just joined this great site, just found it this morning while lurking for new downpipes.

I`ve got a 1994 NC29 with 15000 ks on the clock, and she runs and starts well.

I`ve bought a set of Delkevic steel downpipes last week with new gaskets, had a mechanic to fit them for me, and found them to be annoying, for the following reason.

At about 30-45 mph i have this very high pitch annoying resinance noise. its like there is something loose in there or vibrating, its doing my head in.
I`ve got a Blue Flame steel end can with 3 bolt fit.

Delkevic says they knew of this noise when they were developing the system, but didnt tell me about it when i bought them.

They use 304 grade steel, lifetime guarantee, which is good.

Has anyone else had this problem with Delkevic or any other downpipes, and please tell me if they have steel downpipes and had great quality grade and no probe with them at all, be nice to hear from you all.

cheers
paul

Yep, the saddest thing when changing from my aging OEM to a nice shiny Stainless setup was this persistant tinny sound, really dissapointing and I hate it everytime I start the bike or get in the rev range that really shows it up. Mine was a set of pipes 4-2-1 normally on ebay, not Delvic. Here is an earlier thread that mentions it.

If you have the money perhaps see Graeme France on this forum who I think sells a better system all together. I did ask him but he lost my email unfortunatly so ended up getting the one I mention above.

Hi
thanks for that it was very interesting read.
how can i locate mr france on here?
i think one guy changed the end can to a carbon one, and the noise went, might be the way to go then.

I have a NC23 with stainless system and it does exactly the same, like a horrible tinny rattle sound at around 5-6000 rpm but then clears and sounds fine.(I have a carbon stubby and it still does it). :(

hey guys
thanks for your replies
im glad its not just me, but its bloody annoying.

I had a look at other systems and even phoned the company up even jap 4 spoke to gavin.
Said about it to him and thought of getting their system i think by graeme france. hell of a price, but he couldent guarantee the noise which he has not heard or noticed before would go away.
They had another system by (forgot their name now) and again couldent guarantee the noise would go away, and they were cheaper.
So im going to keep these pipes, they do have the Dlekevic lifetime warranty so that helps.

I was going to put a carbon end can on but i wont now, thanks  ;)
