Hello everyone. I need to clean my carbs but I've never done it before. I'm following the Haynes Manual. I've got the carbs out.

First question. Do I need to disassemble the carbs for the clean?

Second question. If I do need to disassemble the carbs there are parts which the Haynes manual says must be replaced. Is it possible to judge the health of these parts or do they simply have to be replaced? E.g. several o-rings and rubber gasket in float chamber,

Also, any tips on the actual cleaning would be greatly appreciated.

Flip the carbs upside down and you'll see the bowls.

Theres 3 screws (i think.. possibely 4) on each one (4 bowls)

undo these (be carful not to strip, proper screwdriver)

and you'll see the brass jets, float etc etc, blast all of this with carb cleaner.. the jets unscrew,, the main jet and jet holder (7mm) take them out and make sure all the holes are clean

the pilot jet is recessed (flat head screwdriver to come out) blast this clean too and any passageways insde.

work on one carb at a time as the parts are different between carbs..

it is recommended to put on a new float bowl o-ring but providing it's not dropping apart it should be fine. when you get them abck together just make sure its'not leaking any fuel and your good to go

Ok, I've had a look and I think I'm with you.

By the 4 bowls, do you mean the float chambers, beacuse they have 3 screws each. (also not very technical but am asuming these are float chambers based on interpretation from haynes, kind of triangular).

I've taken off the circular cover things where inside is a spring and a seal with a needle. Was that necessary? Just following the Haynes guide for disassembly.

By the way it's an nc30 if that makes any difference.

Yup the float chambers are on the underside, with 3 screws, also check the float heights while its open.. The circular cover is the diaphragm cover, the diaphragm is attached to a piston to which your needle is attached.. Take out the diaphragm/piston before blowing anything out as they can be damaged, and blow through the passage ways within the diaphragm chamber as well as the float chamber jets..

Yes there triangular, take them off and clean inside, remove the jets and clean them and clean through all passageways, compressed air is your friend for this
