RVF bustin my b***s
Hi guys,hopin some one can help me.A while back I bought a 96 RVF with some problems,which I cured with new carb diaphragms.The bike now starts,idles and pulls fine until you hit 8k revs on the road.As soon as you hit 8k it feels like hitting a brick wall.It sounds like a motogp bike with the pit lane limiter on.I know there is a speed limiter at 180 kph but this is cutting in at less than 100k.The clocks have been modded with fancy faces so Im thinking some one fukked up and did something to the limiter.It revs fine when stopped.Basically is there any way of bypassing the limiter?I know there was a plug in box for the vfrs is this still available?Thanx.P.S. I know it might be this that and the other but I wanna rule out the limiter first.

The bike is limited to 8k when the limiter in the clocks is disconnected.
Have a look at the rear of the clocks.. you'll find the connector that comes out of them and plugs into the wiring loom.. if this isn't connected your bike will be limited to 8000rpm.
You can bypass the limited without the box by taking the clock apart and removing the metal tab from the spinney disc.. theres a guide on the net, if you want it i can dig it out.

If it's the 'limp home' mode (cutting 2 cylinders) you can get around it by splicing a wire into the orange/blue cdi wire and running the other end to the battery +ve.

Thanx guys.I found a piece about the limiter so I'll try that.Fingers crossed
I'll try the wire from the ecu too,hopefully we can unleash the beast.

Up date.
Tried those 2 ideas but still in trouble.It sounds different now though,more like fuel probs.
SO i pulled off the carbs and had another look and guess what I found,main jets should be 118 and 120 with loud pipe,according to my investigations.This thing has 145(or146,hard to read)on both banks.So now I'm waiting for new jets and still crossing digits

Did you check the rest of the carbs over for any different parts?

you sure it deffo has RVF carbs fitted and not NC30 carbs ?
NC30 = metal covers over diaphram
RVF = black plastic covers over diaphram.
NC30 = metal covers over diaphram

They're deffo rvf carbs and i'm gonna follow the advice iv'e been given re jets.I'll let ye know how I get on.

ok for what its worth, std RVF jets are fine on a standard bike. mine has a 3/4 yamamoto and K&N filter and its running a peach on 1 110/112 setup

If it's got such large jets in sounds like it could have been an old track bike, ram / air / custom air box, huge jets, and has just been thrown more or less back to standard.
Have you checked the airjets and the needles, if your jets are that much non-standard, it would really be worth investigating all of the carbs.
