Rev counter...

Post by Rocky34Ten » Thu Jul 15, 2010 6:08 pm

when i bought my cbr400rr nc29 J-Reg both the speedo and rev/c needles were busted so i got another clock complete and undamaged. clock is from a 1991 model.

plugged it in and... no rev counter lol.
iv stripped the panels off to follow the loom to check for any breaks got to the cdi (big black box left hand just behind seat) and found its had an accident or somethin as 3 of the wires were cut.
put the wires back together hoping it would cure it made no difference.

the yellow and green stripe wire is the wire comin directly from the rev counter with 1 earth.
followed the rev wire and it goes into the cdi...
couldnt find any breaks in the wire from the clock to the cdi so im a bit stuck now lol.
does anyone know where the pick up is for the rev/c?
anyone got any ideas?

cheers all ;)

could just be the clocks you bought.. rev counter is naf.
can you check with another set of clocks? old set?
or..
remove the needles from the new clocks set and fit them on to the old set...

iv tested both the clocks with just live-ing them up i can get the needle to jump all the way up and down.
iv run my own feed direct from the rev/c pickup from the ignition control unit (live) and earthed it out to the battery and still no joy.
i know the clocks are good cos they come off a running bike :?

just hoping it aint the ig control box

any other ideas

my spare CDI also having the problem like yours. the rev/c won't working if i use the CDI but after using my new CDI, it just work.

have you try to connect directly the rev/c wire to (-)ve terminal of ignition coil ? I've tried that using Kawasaki ZXR250 rev/c meter, and it works. but, for the CBR meter, i don't try it yet.

yeah tried to connect direct to coil negative and it makes the needle go all the way round.
just looked at all the other wire and found one of the coil live wires in the plug of the cdi wasnt there so iv now fixed this too and still no joy.

reakon a new cdi then??
