the exhaust is at the front of the front head. Where the pipes come out??

The carbs enter between the V...so the inlets are the middle two sets of valves and cams - if that makes sense?

The INLETS are where the fuel goes IN and the OUTLETS are where the exhaust gases go OUT.

Thanks guys.
Just measured the gaps. All exhaust valves seem to clear ok. 6 inlet are out of limit but the gaps are below the spec - they are too slim - 0.8 -0.10 mm. Does that sound right? I thought the gaps would be getting bigger not smaller...

Arn't the 21's & 24's a different firing order than the 30? What do you do about that when following vipers guide? :?: :?:

Not an expert as only did it once on my NC35 but I think you can't really confuse the cylinders while measuring valve clearance. The feeler gauge will not stick in if the cyl is not in TDM position... This may well be crap though.

you should still have the marks on the camshafts and the timing cover. It will be different amount of turns to get it to TDC

Easiest way is to just look at the position of the cams on the first cylinder then just make sure the others look the same when you measure them. Note however that this is different between different bikes.

I can't recall what the NC30/35 position is but normally they'll be something like 45degrees to vertical (from the head) and pointing up and out.

Get one of those magnet on a stick things. Push the rockers to one side and use the magnet to remove the shim.

I tend to use some foil to block the tunnels so that even if I drop a shim it wont fall into the engine.
