switch for lower rad fan

Post by jackm » Fri Jul 09, 2010 12:10 pm

I have read its possible to run a manually operated swtich for the rad fan. Has any one who has done this got a brief guide on how this would be possible...

Thanks for your help

There are a few ways you could do it, I wouldn't use the fan-switch exclusivly as you might forget to turn it on.

Instead get a toggle switch and run one wire to earth and the other wire T it into the thermostat switch.

That way when you flick the switch on it will earth the thermostat swtich and cause the fan to come on.

Plus if you forget to put the fan on it'll come on aswell / anyway when the thermoswitch cuts in.

something like that will be more than ample for the earth ;)

Cheers for that (come to the rescue once again!)

My father is unsure where the other wire is going, where the thermostat switch is specifically.

Do you mean the one on the side of the radiator? He said (off the top of my head) that one from the fan goes to the switch on the side of the radiator, and one goes to the temp gauge (I think).

Thanks

You want the one on the radiator, this drives the fan.

The one in the thermostat housing drives the temperature gauge as you said, if you wire it upto this when you flick the switch your temp needle will just goto 'red hot' and that'll be all that happens
