NC30 running rough

Post by beemerbitz » Wed Jul 07, 2010 7:26 pm

I'm after some more advice about my bike. I've finally got the bike to a stage after several months where i can start it. I've put a new battery on tonight, a couple of litres of fuel and it fired up with choke on and no throttle as advised. I let the bike warm up, and when revved it struggles to rev freely at first sort of 1/8th of a twist, then free's up slightly with a bit more of a twist, then runs roughly as more of a twist of throttle is applied. I cleaned the carbs on Saturday and re attached the fuel line and vacuum pipe. I'm wondering if the plugs might be past their best.
Any information will be gladly received and tried. I'll be posting the rebuild shortly from the tired banger to OKI rep.
Cheers

Is this happening while riding under load or sitting on the sidestand free reving?

Probably needs the fuel tap on reserve.

Yes it's happening while on the sidestand, i haven't got the bike to a stage where i can mot it yet and get it out on the roads.
How much fuel would be ideal to run the bike on, and is the couple of litres not really enough?
Thanks

Hi,
I am pretty sure that the reserve is 2litres, so if you have only put 2 litres in and it's on teh side stand it will struggle, try adding a bit more fuel ;)

The petrol tap was on reserve, or what i think is reserve. I'll get some more fuel, double check the reserve, and try again tomorrow and see what happens.

Today i put 5 litres more fresh fuel in the bike and the problem is still there. Also noticed the reg/rec is getting quite warm, is that normal ? I'm debating stripping the carbs again and doing the modifications as in the sticky thread. The bikes got a Yamamoto system and Viper race can and high flow air filter on it so i'm not 100% sure of which jets to get. Is Rick Oliver the best bet for the jets and shims for the needles ?
Thanks Ian
