attempting to fit diamond rearsets

afternoon all-
as the title states, im attempting to fit some diamond rearsets....
got the brake side all sorted, but when i come to the gear side, not only does the shift rod appear to be too long, but i also cant get the little twiddly bit (rose joint?) off of the shift arm to try and fit the diamond one...
can anyone help me please?

The rose joint is pressed onto the shift arm and can't be removed without drilling it off. The upside is that if you drill it off and bolt on a new rose joint, you have more options to route the shift rod with spacers to avoid it fouling anything.

managed to sort it (finally) by stealing the shift arm from a mates spares box-
phew :-)
