Need total of 14 shims - cheap source?

Post by Malc » Sat Apr 17, 2010 4:38 pm

Does anyone have a cheap supplier of shims for the NC30 please? Skimmed the heads and now I need a total of 14 replacements in the range 2.37 to 2.58 - anyone able to help please?

This probably sounds dodgy, but if you need a smaller size than your existing ones, mount them in a drill press chuck just sticking out and as square as possible, and run them on medium then fine grit paper, i got mine very square and reduced the 10th or so needed, certainly cheaper than new ones

Chopping and changing has let me keep two originals, but the other fourteen need to be replaced. Cos I skimmed the heads and shimmed up the cam carriers, the clearances are now much bigger than before, as much 0.25mm on top of the standard clearances.

Tried an email to Rick at the beginning of the week, but no reply as yet, and time is running out before a trackday to run the new engine in is due.

Can't afford new - £5 odd for a little disc of metal is really taking the piss - precision ground or not.
