stupid question part 1: front brake bleeding.

Right ive got my front sp1 brake set up on my bike, with new pads etc. I want to start to bleed the system from dry. Im going to use a non return valve and a syringe because ive heard its a bit of a nitemare drawing the fluid to the calipers.

silly questions.

is it best to draw the syringe from the caliper or inject it into the line from the resevoir?

also do i bleed the fronts one side at a time? or both together? as you can tell ive not done this before!!

any help guys would be great!!

Kris

I haven't used the syringe method, but I'm guessing you'd pull it through from the caliper.

Yes, one at a time, start with the left side (if sitting on the bike)

Draw the fluid from the master cylinder to the caliper, starting with the longer of the two lines, then the shorter. Remember to keep the reservoir filled. Once you have fluid from both, keep going until you get a fairly bubble-free draw from each, then bleed them as normal. Job done, easy, everyone's happy!

PS - make sure you get a nice and tight pushfit onto the bleed nipple or you'll never get a good bubble-free draw! :)

stupid question part 2: do you re-use the bled brake fluid? ie: refill the resevoir from the bottle im using??

reusing the fluid bled though is not a good idea as it'll have air bubbles in it.

get a mitivac, 5 min job :peace:

Right, all bled, i had slight weeping on the right bleed nipple when bleeding, so im leaving it overnight with the brake depressed, then im going to bleed them again with the nipple sealed somehow. But to be honest the brakes are really firm just as good as my other bike.

pretty much sorted!!
