Removing / Refitting Restrictor - NC24
Hi all,
I'm looking to remove the restriction kit on my VFR400 NC24 as I've started sprinting, and although I'm doing it mainly for fun I'd like to be able to get as much from the bike as I can. If I do it, it'll be on the morning of the meeting and I'll be putting it back in in the evening before I head home.
How easy is it to remove (time wise and technicality for a mechanical novice)?
And how easy is it to put back in?
How long will it take?
Thanks for your help,

I don't think it would be a ten minute job so your idea of going to a sprint,de-restricting it and then re-restricting it is going to be a non-starter I suspect

There's a couple of hours between scruitineering and the first run, and my Mummy lets me stay up past my bedtime sometimes.duncan wrote:I don't think it would be a ten minute job so your idea of going to a sprint,de-restricting it and then re-restricting it is going to be a non-starter I suspect

Well think about it, side (seat) fairings off, seat off(maybe), fuel tank off, air box off, carbs off, you might get away without disconnecting the throttle and the choke, remove restrictors. Reversal of procedure. I'd guess (best case) at an hour(ish) if nothing goes wrong and the carbs go back on easily, worst case, two weeks, if you break something
You will get quicker the more you do it, balls in your court

Re: Removing / Refitting Restrictor - NC24
No way your gonna do that (practically)
The restrictors sit in the rubbers inbetween the carbs & engine. This is done from memory so bolts / screws may vary.. especially if you dont' have the original ones in your bike..
*Rear Side Panels Off - Flat Headed Screw-Driver
*Front Seat Off - 2 x 10mm Bolts
*Petrol Tank Off - 3 x 10mm Bolts
*Airbox off - 5 + 7 Philips Screws
*Unbolt Front Coil Braket - 2 x 8mm bolts
*Carbs off - 4 Philips Screws and ideally a big lever to prise the shit out of the carbs.
Then you've gotta get it all back together.
The biggest pitfall is the carbs... if you dont get them to seal right (which is a NOTORIOUS problem) your bike isn't going to run right, or even run at all, potentially leaving you stranded somwhere.
Plus unless there new rubbers the carbs are going to be a pain in the arse to get on and off the bike (big lump of wood to leaver them off) and then jumping on them to get them back in.
Not to mention that when you disconnect the tank / vaccumn pipe it's going to piss some petrol over you and your bike, same with the carbs if you tilt them too much they'll overflow.
You can do all of the above with the standard toolkit on the bike though (I know i've done it before when a vaccumn pipe broke on my in the middle of no where and I was trouble shooting before conceeding to the AA... I manage to get it going ;0)
If you wanna do that everytime good luck... it's not worth it in my opinion though, as your going to look like a pleb keep taking your bike apart and you risk it not running afterwards.

it is relatively easy to do same as neo said but 8 screws on the rubbers (2 on each) an they should come off with a quick tug on the front an back whip them out an put the rear in 1st an then the front i find it easy had them off derestricted an back on it bout 45mins ishNeosophist wrote:No way your gonna do that (practically)

My other worry is that you may end up forgetting how much power your bike is going to give you with the restrictors in and out so much and end up gunning it expecting less shove and getting more than you expected.
Just remove the restrictors altogether. Unless you ride like a complete penis, its hard for anyone to prove anything about them.

You DONT need to undo both the screws on the rubbers though.VfRTeddy wrote:it is relatively easy to do same as neo said but 8 screws on the rubbers (2 on each) an they should come off with a quick tug on the front an back whip them out an put the rear in 1st an then the front i find it easy had them off derestricted an back on it bout 45mins ishNeosophist wrote:No way your gonna do that (practically)

Just undo the top screws (1 on each = 4) and pull the carbs off leaving the rubbers attatched to the engine.
