I just wondered if an RS125 shock would fit an NC30? Can't afford a 250 one and a refurb so just wondered if anyone had fitted one from a 125, if it was poss and what the results were likely to be? I am guessing that as the RS125 is an impossibly light bike it's not gonna give the kind feel you want in a heavier 400 + fat git rider but thought I'd see what you lot reckoned.

Id put money on it the 125 shock isnt adjustable or rebuildable like most 125's their built on a budget. If you do get it to fit i doubt it'll give anywhere near enough damping.

I figured that was probably the case. Saw one for £20 and thought I'd ask.

Put the £20 in a tin and save it up until you have enough!

It might take you a while but you only have to buy a decent shock once.. if you try to be a 'cheap bastard' as you put it you'll end up buying something half decent and finding you need to upgrade to something better, so instead of buying it twice just save up and get what you want.. you'lll be waay better off in the long run.

I know i've been a cheap bastard before and it hardly ever works out well.

It doesn't! I had the rear shock on mine rebuild (supposedly) it cost 167 pounds and it was garbage when i refitted it. I have just put a new Hagon unit in 297 quid I know but WOW what a difference. You pay for what you get!

I had a Hagon on my first VFR and the handling when you have the suspension set up right (I didn't have much done with the forks tbh, but they were the 89 VFR ones so think fresh oil and seals and they were pretty much good to go - don't remember the springs feeling saggy or anything) on the VFR is just immense. The shock I have on her at the mo bounces all over the show and the damping, while there is some left, ain't exactly great.

Charlie... did you have the latter type, remote res shock rebuilding and who did it? £167 sounds like a hell of a lot of money to spend and not get good results. Glad ya happy with ya Hagon. I will eventually have to go that route. Can't afford it at the mo' which was why I was looking for a cheaper alternative. Know it wouldn't be as good as a Hagon but anything that's a bit better than the one I currently have would be worthwhile. Knew a 125 shock prob wasn't gonna cut it, though.

Keep an eye on ebay for K7 GSXR 600/750 shocks, they fit with a little work and are 3 way adjustable. These can be had dirt cheap and when you got a bit of cash have it rebuilt to suit.

theres is currently a hagon rear shock on ebay for sale - £75 start bid - looks pretty clean. cant go wrong for that money.
