changing my fork seals, but a small question before i start taking things apart, as haynes is not too clear.

to take out the whole internals, is it just the simple case of undo the preload bolt in the bottom, and unscrew the top bolt and remove the assembly, or do i have to also remove the preload adjuster, and tripod at the top before before undoing the top bolt. after that i know its simples, but i just dont want to make a horlex with the spring assembly.

cheers
david

Crack the bottom preload bolt off so its loose before touching anything else, it also helps if you use a air or electric rachet as it can just spin if it wants to be a pain in the arse. I have managed to get it undone in the past by wedging a rule down the stanchon to stop the damper rod spinning but it wasnt easy.

IIRC though you dont need to do this just to change your seals, only needed if your stripping them completely.

so does that mean just preload bolt and top bolt out, lift damper unit away and away i go at the seals?

you'll still have to seperate the legs I'd have thought?

on a 30 you undo the damper rod bolt, take the guts out and then get hardcore and pull the sliders out of the stanchion.

Cannot see that 35 being any different

No, to remove the seals you need the separate the sliders from the fork legs. Undo the damper bolts (if only to leave them finger tight), undo the top bolt and remove springs, fully undo and remove rebound dampers, etc. Remove dust seal, then circlip, then "slider-hammer" the legs and sliders apart. Be aware, its much more likely you'll damage the bushes on the 35 then you are the 30 so consider ordering new bushes also.

Hope this helps?
