Modified NC30 spec - what d'ya recon?

Post by Smev » Sat Feb 27, 2010 10:23 pm

What do you think of this bike/engine set-up?

NC30 engine - G-force Performance flywheel mod
Rick O progammable cdi - HRC map
RVF carbs - currently standard
Carbon Kevlar HRC spec airbox - with ramair snorkel - recently purchased from forum member.
Yammamoto half system - Carbon can.
Rick O rads - upper and lower

What would you do first?

HRC spec the carbs?
start doing more engine mods - quietening gears, skimming, porting, etc?

Or just leave it?!!

Mainly used on the road but with a few (3) track days per year.

I am in your position too, have done everything i can do to my bike chassis wise and am thinking what i can do to the engine without spending a load. I keep putting it off as the costs outweigh the gains for a road bike. Seeing as you have the ram air box i would proabably HRC spec the carbs to suit and remove the filter, see what that gives you as that seems the cheapest option. If it does not work you can always revert back to a spec you know works. I do not see the point in touching the engine unless you go the whole hog with everything as there is so little to be gained by doing one thing and not the other on the little V4. I am probably being sensible to avoid spending money but if i had the dough i would do the works as i will never sell it. I am sure aly or someone with more experience will be along shortly.

Or just leave it!!!! whats the matter with you man, get the spanners out

HRC spec your carbs, you cant run a filter with that airbox anyway so may aswell use it to its full potential. Quietening gears is a free mod so get them out even if its just for the noise

If was me would be in this order, what I would say is correct path to feel and get best bang for buck.
Full System
Carb Modds
CDi Upgrade
Ram air, but will ned fuel pump and set up correctly, can be a pain on the road to be honest.
Rads as bike will no rev harder and get hotter thus........................

It will never end, believe me!!

Thats what I was thinking!!! Not sure on how to do the quietening gears yet so I'll have a search around the forum for answers and get it done.

Looks like I'm gonna be contacting Rick O for the HRC kit for the RVF carbs

Removing the quietening gears is only a mod really for when the heads have been skimmed, has no real effect on a untuned motor.

get it dyno'd, oh and you forgot its got a gsxr genny 2, thats a bit of an engine mod I spose

Id get it set up with the ram air and see how it rides, mabe have the cdi played about with when its setup right too, make sure its still comfortable on the road

your bikes not slow in a strait line by any means, its always the quickest 400 at odiham so the engine work really needed?

NC30 engine - G-force Performance flywheel mod good mod to have
Rick O progammable cdi - HRC map speak to alexwitham as i think the modified road map was better,i might be wrong but
RVF carbs - currently standard and i'd leave them that way
Carbon Kevlar HRC spec airbox - with ramair snorkel - recently purchased from forum member.na sell it on and run a filter on the road
Yammamoto half system - Carbon can.very nice, bet it sounds well
Rick O rads - upper and lower. good call as you'll need them for what i think you should do.

What would you do first?

HRC spec the carbs? nope
start doing more engine mods - quietening gears, skimming, porting, etc? na leave it stock

Or just leave it?!! nope, how about 433ccs on the road, reliablity and great mid range power and drop the rev limiter with your RO CDI so your not stressing out the crank and the RO rads will cope with the extra heat from the extra 34cc's,it might sound like a lot of cash to get it done but you'll see a bigger improvement doing a 433cc conversion than you would by skimming the heads and posrting it on a road bike, heard ram air on the road can be a bit of a pain in the arse, but thats just my idea of how to spend someone elses cash.

Mainly used on the road but with a few (3) track days per year.

big bore is a good idea, doing the other racey stuff will probably increase top end power and it'll rev more but as a road bike do you really need this?
