Re: 600 coversion
I always thought it was the other way around when I was looking into it.
The NC29 basically bolts straight in, the NC23 you have to cut and weld the frame? Thus I decided to go Big Bore (if I ever get round to fit it...).
Off the top of my head the years and model sound right for the engine. But the best bit of advice on the subject I was given was do not consider it as transplanting an engine but see it as a re-framing exercise as you will need to use the engine, carbs, air box, loom, exhaust, cdi, etc. However at the end of the day I haven't done either but search this site (and the old forum) and I promise you there is lots of information available.

Re: 600 coversion
You have got to ask yourself why would you want to put a 600 engine in in the first place? I understand that doing something like this would be challenging, but as for riding a 400cc i have enormous pleasure when i'm on country lanes riding mine. More so then the CBR600 i own as the 400 makes me feel like a kid again although i've done a few mods to it.
But on the otherhand i wouldn't want to tour on a 400 as im old and it'd cripple me thats why ive got the 600 for now.
Whats your reason for thinking of this modification?

Re: 600 coversion
The 91 to 98 motor will go in but its a lot of grinding and fabrication but the secret is to get the motor as high up in the frame as possible to retain the handling. Ive seen 2 other 29's that have 600 f2/3 motors just sort of hanging out of the frame which screws up the center of balance that probably explains why they were both for sale.
Mines done 20,000 miles in its current state and id never dream of selling it.
One word of advice if someone has built a bike and only used it 30 miles its probably crap and also shows lack of commitment to a project.

Re: 600 coversion
Lol.
Mine was built from parts I had spare just to try it.
As I use my ZX6 as my road bike, then had my scoot when I had my leg bust, the only chance I had to ride it was in France so did a couple of track sessions and then some nosing around illigally where we were staying. Wouldnt call it a lack of commitment as its pretty well sorted, though could do with a few bits tidying cosmetically.
I have my R6 and NC23 as full on track bikes.
Have also been through a few NC35's which had full commitment to getting them mint and a bout 4 CBR400rrs. End of the day, I could spend a lot on it and still only get what I am asking now. As it is it is perfectly rideable for however the new owner wants to use it and if he wants to spend money on it to bling it, then that will be there choice.
I know the frame stuff has been done properly as has the suspension with no shortcuts.
You take your choice. Plus it can be insured as a classic as it was while my mate was going to use it but never did for reasons I haven't worked out..

Re: 600 coversion
I'm sure your is fine on the fundamentals.
But its a shame that a lot of them don't get finished nicely and have the suspension sorted as well .Seeing that you've done all the hard work.Once you've gone to the extra bit of effort their really rewarding to own. As the extra torque of the older 600's makes it a joy for street riding and the F2 motor still pulls 14K in top using all the 29 electrics.
With 55mpg if you keep your corner speed up and stick to 80mph its a right hoot.

The 23 is child's play compared to getting the 29 in the right place.
warrior64 if you want to know more your going to have to post a reply or something?

Re: 600 coversion
Hi guys, I dont usually post in this section as i have a NC30 and a Fzr400 but i've been offered a NC23 silly cheap, its in a a big box at the mo in loads a bit (like theres nothing in one piece).
So seeing as the engine wants a new head (i dont know why i not chatted that much to the guy that has is) and maybe pistons i was thinking of this very conversion.
Many thanks
Ian
