nc29 oil warning light

Post by absolute » Wed Jun 18, 2008 11:08 am

had my oil light come on last night, oops, hadnt checked it for ages. managed to kill the engine straight away and get filled up, and took it very easy on the way in the morning. but can I expect any damage, I know some people say that once the light is on your fucked, but I cant see why honda would create a warning light that basically only comes on once you have damaged the engine, seems fairly pointless to me. everything seemed ok this morning.

firstly a big slap round the chops for letting your oil get so low...

Secondly its unlikely you have caused any damage as it is a warning light...

I know, I fully deserve that slap round the chops. I was shocked, havent checked the oil for a while, wont be letting that happen again.

well i wont slap you as last year mine came on twice!
from a videoed test i saw of a Honda motorcycle running with NO oil in it. it took several hours before anything happened (so i knew i could get home). same test done again with no water in... took aprox 1 hr before they shut it down.
after all they did in the tests, they filled bike with oil/water and it ran like nothing had happened!

You will probably find it next to that real alien autopsy video.
