Help needed again...

Post by mattjc » Tue Nov 10, 2009 10:36 pm

Goodness me I'm so close to giving up on this bike...

The bike has recently had a wiring loom changed and all was well till this evening - after two and a half hours the RAC turned up to recover the wife and he's said that there is no power getting to the fuse box? any ideas on a quick fix for this?

Thanks again people.

you checked the 30amp main fuse?

in simple terms the power starts at the battery and carry's on like so, 30amp main fuse - ignition switch - fuse box.

So if your fuse box is getting no power id start with the main fuse and then the ignition switch. The 30amp fuse is located behind the right side seat unit.

More specifically it's under the big red plug that connects to the solenoid.

He said that was okay but i'll check when the poor wife gets home, he's hot wired the fuse box to the battery I think just to get her home.

any reason why this would blow, I only ask coz when I fitted the new loom I had to replace this fuse as it had blown before.

Bad earth maybe? dodgy battery? i wouldnt know to be honest but if your main fuse is ok then its gota be the ignition switch, bad connection, loose wire....you got a haynes manual and a volt tester?

ignition switch would be the key bit, or the start button? sorry for the silly question!

the key bit ;) visually check the wiring harness that comes out of the ignition switch for the obvious loose/broken wire.

The solid red wire is your 12v from the 30amp fuse and the red with black tracer is the 12v from the ignition to the fuse box.
The red wire should be live all the time and the red/black wire should come live with the ignition on

Okay so the problem is...

The always live wire has snapped or has been pulled away from it's contact, looks like I routed the loom the wrong way and it's stretched the ignition wires, bloody amateurs hey. but atleast I spotted it - lol.

Thanks for the replies Munky - much appreciated, consider yourself on my to buy a beer list.
