Re: Unleaded or LRP?
Just regular 95ron unleaded, there's no performance benefit to be had from using 98ron on a standard engine. MexicanGringo neither fuel will hurt your engine but safe to say 99% of nc30s out there will be running on unleaded

Re: Unleaded or LRP?
Theres no point using LRP, it just contains anti-knock aditives for older engines ( <mid 80's) that can't run without lead (prevents valve seal damage)MexicanGringo wrote:Hey all, iv been using lrp since i got my nc30 just because thats what it was using before, but before i re-jet it cos its running rich, what fuel is everone using? The NC24/30/35 were designed for Unleaded gasoline. Minimum grade 89 (i believe the haynes book of lies says 91)
Don't forget 20 years ago the fuel wasn't what it was today.
Anything other than standard unleaded (95ron) is a waste!
You can still get proper leaded fuel (4 star) still (i believe thats 98 ron), they sell it by me, mainly for classic enthusiats, but it's £1.60 a litre due to governements heavy tax. I use it in my old 60's mopeds.
I suppose in theory if you ran tescos super unleaded (99ron) which is the higest available at commercial forecorts you might be able to dyno out another bhp.
But tbh I wouldn't even attempt it, esepecially with carb setup.

I use v-power or bp ultimate for peace of mind on both non-standard bikes I have. Got used to the cost with a car that drinks it too :)

Yeah, I only get 17 miles to the gallon in my car :/banoffee wrote:I use v-power or bp ultimate for peace of mind on both non-standard bikes I have. Got used to the cost with a car that drinks it too :)
I found the article I was thinking of.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/ ... Which.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Which? tested a few different fuels and found that some of the super fuels yielded worse performance than standard fuel! hah.
I'd save the £115 over 12,000 miles and use it on more oil & filter changes which will make the engine last longer!
I've never understood the hype of added 'cleaning' detergents to the 'super' fuels. Old side-valve engines needed a regular de-coke but any relativly modern engine with good rings and set-up propely burns very clean compared to older engines and unless it has problems shouldn't really need any extra cleaning agents to make it work 'better'
