cant get NC24 axle apart, stuck collar

Post by saber63 » Mon Aug 17, 2009 8:52 pm

alrighty so in this picture

http://www.jacksons-lair.co.uk/nc24xx/axle.JPG" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

collar #7 seems stuck

show here

http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f115/ ... G_1103.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

(thanks to Neosophist for both photos)

which is preveting me to gettign to the snap ring(or circle clip) and thus removing the the axle.

i dont see any major damage, however i cant pry it off with screw drivers....

im tempted to cut it out, as i am planning to make a new shaft anyways...

anyone have advice? thank you!

Do not cut that out, that part is no longer manufactured and it is not made anymore either.

It is not attatched to anything so will just pry off. Mine came off simply by lifting it out.. Sprary it with lots of WD40 and leave it for a bit, lever it off with some small screwdrivers but be careful not to score the axle itself.

Hmmmm. good to know!

im thinking it might have deformed some, as there is abit of a raised lip on one side of the spacer... so i might not be able to just pry it off.... but i hit it with some oil and am letting it sit over night.

because im planing on doing away with the cush drive, or heck, swapping to a NC30 spindle, the spacer is not the most important piece.... and if need be i can always make one or have it made

Thanks again forthe info. ill give it another shoot tommrow morning and give an update then *crosses fingers* im mostly worried cause its spins very freely, and has about 10 thousands of inch slop up and down, almost feels like its stuck on a grove.... i did try the prying with screw drivers, and got nothing.... but hopefully the oil will help....

Thanks!

i got it!!!

the reason it was stuck is due to the previous onwers abuse.... the coller had been presed on hard enough over time to cold form it under the snap ring sum....

i had to pry pretty damn hard with the screw drivers to get ti started on one side, and then work my way around, breaking the material off.

its off, and now i jsut need to get the snap ring off, not seeing any problems there, just need some time :)

Thanks a bunch for the help!!!

No worries.

Why do away with the cushdrive? it makes your chain last longer.

Fitting an NC30 axle isn't too difficult but it will need machining down, (you'll need NC30 sprocket carrier too)

A friend in Japan has the RVF rear wheel and the CBR600F1 front on his NC24 (both painted white)

does the NC30 use a cushdrive? i thought it didnt...... also its very hard to find the NC30 axle state side, and all teh ones in the UK are kinda spendy.... i must say i kinda have a full sized machine shop to play with... so making one shouldnt take more then a weekend(plus the lead time for harding)

also the only place i can find sprokets and brake stuff is from UK, so if i swap over to using say... CBR600RR sprokets i can now get them anywhere from 38 tooth to 50 tooth, in 520 chain. and i have to run 520 chain, as the CRF450 motor im running i can only get sprokets in the 520 flavor.... and ontop of all that..... being able to adjust my wheel to swingarm and sprocket offsets is a plus, as i doubt the CRF450 will line up perfect....

oh what the hell, heres a picture that should make more sense :) http://lh5.ggpht.com/_t4caESAuBOE/SoS_c ... tfire5.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

if i could get a NC30 axle cheap nad easy, i would do that....

ill post up some more stuff this weekend as i should be getting my wheel :)

thanks again!

Ah I see.

Well if you have tools available it wont take longer than a few hours to do the work, Use the NC24 hub and turn a few mm off the NC30 axel, you'll see where when you put it together.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HONDA-NC30-VFR400 ... 286.c0.m14" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Theres a hub there with the sprocket carrier for £0.99p / $1.6 (No bids yet)

If the seller wont ship it state side I don't mind buying it for you and posting it over ;)
