Don't cut the wrong wire!
Hi,
Any chance someone can tell me which wire to cut?
Installing an alarm and need to insert it into the RETURN FROM THE IGNITION FUSE. I can look inside the fuse box to find out but it is a sealed unit and would be forever damaged...
I have looked at some wiring diagrams but some of the colours are not the same for other parts of the bike leaving me less than confident!
These are the colours connected to the fuse box.
Black and blue
Red with thin black line
Blue and orange
Black and Brown
Black
Black with thin red line
I know which one I think it is but not going to say so I don’t sway the vote!

the fuse box is not sealed... it pops open

Well
Red/black is the live feed to the fuse box
Black is the fused output to the rigthhand handlebar switch (which then is black/white to the cdi/coils)
Black/red is the fused output to the brakelight (can't remember if also covers running lights)
Blue/orange is the fused output for the fan
Black/brown and black/blue is hard to remember just from memory, but I'm 99% sure that's only lights and indicators
and if it means anything to you, the solid red (thick wire) is the permanent live one, good to tap into if you want the alarm to work after you turned off the ignition.

It's actually for the ignition part of the alarm... remote start... didn't buy the alarm for it honest! But it's a feature so...
So, now I know it is eithe black and red or red and black....
The red with black goes to three fuses so I presume I would need to inset the ignition cables into the black with red one that only comes back from the ignition fuse.....
Does that sound right?
While I'm here I am also putting in a cig lighter for power...
Have been told to attach it to the ignition so that it is only on when the bike is running... Would that mean the black straight to the battery and the red on this same wire?

will such a small battery be man enough to run an alarm etc without running flat? I know the battery in my nc30 is only 6amp hours which is teeny weeny!

That is a good question....
I have a charger that will be permanantly connected (well, not when riding...). I won't be running anything from it when I'm not moving....
But..... No idea! Guess I will find out!

Has anyone else out there attached a cigarette lighter style socket to a VFR400?
Had any battery problems?
I've seen NC30s with the same alarm that I am putting on it...

why do people bother with remote start on a bike?
i always park in 1st gear (safer) and also, if you start it cold, its just gonna die again without keeping the throttle cracked.
imagine you remote start while u get geared up, and you get distracted, and leave the bike running for hours. or if you press the remote start accidentally.

It doesn't keep running forever after remote start it runs on a timer of say 5 to 8min or until you turn the key and press the disarm button

Hi there TheDarkGlove, show us your alarm and wires and if you have can your functions, diagram just to be sure its same as mine maybe I can be of some help as it wrecked my head for two weeks
