Re: NC30 Mods
Very interesting. There are a couple of guys on here getting serious with injection too.
What are the specs and how does it run?

Re: NC30 Mods
Very nice, I've been tempted to have a crack at this in the past.
What ecu will you be using? Are you using a map sensor or fuelling based on revs and throttle?
We need answers dammit!!

Re: NC30 Mods
Here are most of the answers:-
Throttle Bodies are CBR600FS cut in half and machined to fit the NC30 casting which the stock carbs bolt to
Fuel Rails are home made from solid Ally bar, probably one of the harder bits to make.
ECU is a Megasquirt MS-II with MS-Extra firmware, the firmware is set as a V8 wasted spark, the ECU doesn't know there are 4 cylinders missing :-)
Starter Clutch modified to fit 36-1 toothed wheel, using the rear pickup only.
Something not in the photos, bike is using Coil on Plug, coils from CBR600RR I think but not sure.
Ignition map at the moment is bog stock NC30, not HRC, map. Needs modifying to increase advance at cruise.
Fuel Map is start from scratch.
Load sensing is using the MAP sensor in Megasquirt but I might try alpha-N or there is a firmware which uses MAP at
low engine speeds and light loads and TPS for high speed and load.
Bike starts and runs, idles quite nicely and revs with some hesitation but I'm just beginning to map it so i expect that.
Can't ride it yet, have to modify fuel tank to take fuel pump. Got pump from CBR1000RR. Currently using car fuel pump and
petrol can on floor :-)))
Injectors are 220 cc/min at whatever pressure CBR pressure regulator is set at, think it's 50 psi.
If you need more info or photos, just ask and I'll post them on Photobucket.
I know lots about Megasquirts too so ask about them as well if you wish.

Re: NC30 Mods
Please forgive my ignorance on all this
, but what will FI do for the bike?
Will it improve the delivery of the power and/or provide more?
Cheers Smev

Re: NC30 Mods
Maybe its a more managable fueling system. I knoe of a K5/6 GSX-R 1000 that had carbs fitted instead of its injecctors and they were able to get more power from the carbs. I'll see if I can find it on the internet somewhere.

Re: NC30 Mods
IMHO, fuel injection is better than carbs for several reasons:-
1 You can get slightly more air into the engine because it doesn't need a pressure drop across a venturi to draw the fuel through the carb
2 The fuelling needs of an engine are anything but linear and it's very difficult to make a carb work for all engine speeds and loads
3 Most bike engines, because they are quite highly tuned, have an area in the torque curve just before they come "on the cam" where there
are major flow reversals in the intake ports which really screws carbs up because the air goes through the carb and picks up fuel, then back
through the carb the wrong way and picks up more fuel and then back into the engine where it picks up even more fuel. Injection just puts
in the correct amount of fuel according to it's map. Race exhaust systems usually make this situation much worse, same as performance
cams, etc.
4 To change the fuelling with injection, you just plug your laptop in and change some numbers in the map, no taking carbs off to change jets or
needles.
5 If you run a lambda sensor in the exhaust, it can be self tuning to an extent.
6 You can shut the fuel off completely on the overrun, why put fuel into the engine when you don't need to?
End of rant.

Re: NC30 Mods
it would be cool to see a FI kit for these bikes.
good work, keep it up, keep the pics rolling, document what you do, and make a little web page for it. I haven't seen this done before.
can you show some pics of the injectors and how you've got them squirting fuel into the engine, its foreign shit to me.
i researched megasquirt a while back when I was checking out 100% ethanol fuelling, and duel fuel vehicles. when I've got the space I'd like to get into making ethanol.
