Re: Gearbox woes
I mean running out of fuel becuase the tap isn't opening enough.. so when your nailing it there isn't enough fuel flowing to the carbs to keep the engine running.
This is a common problems when the tap breaks

OK, thanks. I'll wait fir the traffic to die down and I'll take her for a spin with the vacuum blocked and take it from there.Neosophist wrote:I mean running out of fuel becuase the tap isn't opening enough.. so when your nailing it there isn't enough fuel flowing to the carbs to keep the engine running.

Re: Gearbox woes
Yep thats the fueltap mod.
If your still getting problems it might be worth investigating your fueltap.
With the mod you should have a good flow of fuel to the engine.
Maybe your tap is partially blocked.
Another cause of bad fuel flow is the breather being blocked on the top of the tank, check this isn't blocked too, this can cause fuel starvation

did the tap mod and sealed of the vacume hose spigot. No real differance except when i went to fill up with petrol the rear right cylinder started pissing out petrol from the inlet. It's done this a couple of times before but always though it was because i hadn't tightened up the rubbers, but surley it can't be right??
Also realsed there is a popping noise it's most noticeable when at idel as it's not loud but you can hear it and almost feel it through the seat, like a pop,pop---pop,pop,pop---pop,pop. would this indicate one of the cylinder(back left most likly) is not firing?? I gues that could explain why i can't give it the beans?
Help.
Cheers

Re: Gearbox woes
sorry, ment the rear left cylinder as you sit on the bike that keeps flooding/ where petrol comes out of.

Re: Gearbox woes
Ermmm......Some one might wan't to cyber slap me.
Decided to take the bike for a quick blast with out the air filter in. I know this isn't recomended but i let her fully warm up before riding and was only out for about 5min and tbh i had pretty much tried everything else. It now pulls hard in every gear upto around 12k then it splutters (misfires) I gues this is because it is now running lean at the top as there is no air filter???
i'll get my coat
Cheers

Re: Gearbox woes
It shouldn't run without the air-filter.
this is interesting.
You say the carbs are leaking and overflowing with petrol?
This sounds like it's got a stuck float or a knackered float valve... eitherway that'll cause WAY too much fuel to go into the engine (SUPER RICH!)
in your case, removing the air-filter is allowing more air in there and alleviating the problem. (which is why you normally use MASSIVE jets if you just remove the air-filter)
I had it on the ZXR... was pissing fuel into the engine, removing the air-filter helped slightly but I was only getting 47 miles to a TANK!
If the bike occasionally leaks fuel this is NOT a good sign, especially if somebody drops a cigarette too.
Is the plug black on that cylinder?

Re: Gearbox woes
Really i thought i was just being a retard for not changing my air filter. It was only the filter i took out, i put the box back on once i had removed the filter, if that makes any differance.
Yeah it's only the rear right that has ever flodded that much that fuel comes out of the inlets, but as you say still not good. Got a picture of he plug although i couldn't get the camera to foucus properly i think you get the idea.

What is next on the to do list then, how did you fix the kawak not sure my bank ballance can cope with 47 miles to a tank!!!
Cheers

E"A Just realised you said about the float bowls, i guess that's the first things to try?? :)

Re: Gearbox woes
Float needle valve wasn't sealing properly so I replaced it with one from a spare set.
The NC30 should bog horribly like toad without an airfilter in it unless you have 150ish mains! (or really restrict your air jet)
So, sounds like its really over-fuelling.
Which isn't good!
Need Mark (CMSMJ1) to come along and adise you on the carbs, he's an NC30 guy :)

Re: Gearbox woes
now then...
I'm not compos mentis to make sense..so I'll come and look at this again after I've been to bed....
Basically..no airfilter should make it unusable..as tested by me when racing and a retirement after warm up lap
We'll sort it..
I just need to stop my eyes pointing different directions and tasting of Tyskie...
