There much more reliable.

The only problem is you have a 20+ year old bike that's probably been owned by <x> amount of people who are about as mechanically adept as a lettuice.

No bike will run forever without maintainance.

When the floats are empty they can take a while to start.. full choke and no throttle.. give it a blast for 10 seconds and leave it for at least a minute, this will allow the battery time to recover and time for the fuel to work its way down to the carbs.. its gravity fed and only opens when the vaccumn is high (when cranking engine)

After a few cranks and leaving it for a while it'll start.

Since you didn't have wet plugs it stands a chance the fuel hasn't got to the engine yet.

When I first started messing with these bikes I found it'd flatten a battery trying to start it with dry carbs.. that is until i learned to leave it alone after a 10 second crank for a few minutes.. then it'll usually fire up.

Hmmm.... Your probably right, although the mito got me through a winter, 250 miles a week, only had to do routine maintenance oh and replace the battery. Don't think i've had more than a couple of weeks out of the NC30 with out something going wrong. But the fact theres still so many around 20 years on guess they must be reliable and I'm just having a strop.

Anyway. When i replace the carbs the first time i, switch the fuel on, choke out,no throttle, crank for 20 seconds, left it 30 seconds or so and the repeat till battery was flat.

Second time as above but after a couple of times closed the choke and tried cranking with a little throttle.

Done the same both times

Battery is on charge now, so will try again, as per you instructions in a bit.

Cheers for your help :D

have you got a syringe? i normally put the carbs on, add fuel into the carbs via a syringe normally until i can see fuel in the pipe that connects the tank to the carbs, connect it up and she fires pretty much instant and less stress on the battery.

didnt do it when i came round yours as i forgot the syringe!

i will bringe it with me to work tomorrow along with the plugs, may save your battery a bit.

hmmm... you was all right.

Took the air box off and poured some juice down into the carbs put it back on and tried cranking. After a few goes and a couple of nearlys she fired. took her out briefly but the the throttle seams very stiff, i think the B cable needs adjusting, but she did seam to pull much harder and could easily get upto 50ish in first. Gotta go upto Brum this morning but will have a fiddle with the throttle cables when i get home and keep you posted.

Cheers

got the plugs here if you need them, along with a syringe to help with the fuel if you want it. we did find the return throttle cable very tight when we re-fitted the carbs the other day, could be causing some issues.

im here til half five.

have you tired you drilled out jets?

Just got back.

tire it with the b throttle connected and Disconnected but still the same problem, can't use full throttle. Must have just been that i couldn't wind it past 3/4 last night. 120 jets all round.

Surely it has to be the plugs now, no?

I'll come see you tomorrow if that ok chis as i've just got soak through and have work at 4.

Cheers

Hello,

Borrowed a set of plugs of of Pugparcels and still the same.

Done a bit of reading around and the symptoms i have seam to be that of a sliping clutch and after reading this

http://akhara.com/nc30/nc30clutch.html

Have a feeling i maybe have got the friction plates mixed up and missed out the two smaller friction plates. Once i have had some kip i'll strip the clutch down, again! and take it from there.

Cheers for all your help thus far
