Re: Gearbox woes
There 6mm.
What did the plugs look like, how sooty is the exhaust? It's not common on a vfr but it could be going too rich?
How does the bike feel

Re: Gearbox woes
the front plugs were gray/whitish and the rears were coffee brown around the center electrode and a little black on the top electrode. Does this mean the two front cylinders are running lean?
The bike feels better, it has that 'umph' back when you try to accelerate hard at 3/4 throttle. It feels a litlle clunky wheen coming off the throttle but think that's because i need to adjust the chain.
About the stud, the nut had rusted onto the stud and when i removed it the stud cam out with the nut and was covered with swarf so guessing the thread was shot, would this do the job?

When i had the end can off that was very sooty but the pipes are pretty clean.
Cheers

Re: Gearbox woes
Erm... have you tried screwing it back in?
I'm not sure if there 1mm pitch or 1.25mm pitch I can't remember off the top of my head. Just check before you order them

Re: Gearbox woes
Any joy finding them mate??pugparcels wrote:will have a digg out tonight, pretty sure i still have 4 densos & some 120 jets, well say 120 jets they were 115's that i drilled out to 120 (ish) to save me buying jets that may not do the job. these gave me a good enough indication that i needed bigger jets and 120's all round did the job.
if i can find them, your more than welcome to try them. ( i've had a tidy up sicne thrusday so hopefully i can find them! )
Cheers

Ah no worries mate, i know your a busy man. Just found a 120 drill bit for my dremel so I'm gonna drill out all those 115s i've got in those spare carbs. Then i can have a play around with the 118 and the 120, they won't be bang on but like you said should get me somewhere near and saves forking out for something that may or may not work.
If these don't help then I'll still borrow the plugs if that's OK?
Cheers

Re: Gearbox woes
Sound no problems, as i said its not perfect but gave me enough of a clue that 120's shuold be about right, if you find its still not great at least you can work your way up in drill bit sizes until you find something that seems better then get the real ones.
i will bring the plugs down to work tomorrow, and i think im still free sunday afternoon if you want to sort out the fork seals etc.

Re: Gearbox woes
i fucking hate this muggy c**t of a bike!!
Took the carbs off removed the main jets , cleand every thing with carb cleaner and put everything back together tried to start it and it fired a couple of times and then nothing, just drainded the battery. checked the plugs and they were bone dry. Checked and replaced the vacume hose. charged the battery and tired again but again it wouldn't fire.
Took the carbs off and all the float bowls were full off petrol but it would apear that none is getting into the cylinders, what could be causing this as i though mainjet size only effected the fueling when at full throttle??
Top it all just put my foot through the side fairing in a fit of rage.
"get a japanise bike, more reliable" they said, bolloxs is it, had nothing but problems with this bike since i got it, gtive me an italian any day.
I'm now off too sulk!
cheers

There much more reliable.Rustyp81 wrote:"get a japanise bike, more reliable" they said, bolloxs is it, had nothing but problems with this bike since i got it, gtive me an italian any day.
The only problem is you have a 20+ year old bike that's probably been owned by <x> amount of people who are about as mechanically adept as a lettuice.
No bike will run forever without maintainance.
When the floats are empty they can take a while to start.. full choke and no throttle.. give it a blast for 10 seconds and leave it for at least a minute, this will allow the battery time to recover and time for the fuel to work its way down to the carbs.. its gravity fed and only opens when the vaccumn is high (when cranking engine)
After a few cranks and leaving it for a while it'll start.
Since you didn't have wet plugs it stands a chance the fuel hasn't got to the engine yet.
When I first started messing with these bikes I found it'd flatten a battery trying to start it with dry carbs.. that is until i learned to leave it alone after a 10 second crank for a few minutes.. then it'll usually fire up.
