Good progress spike, but gotta ask why you would even think of running an awful rear tyre like that?? :?

By the time you've 'got it rounded' there won't be any tread left!!

Tyres are THE most important bit on your bike in my opinion. You can ride a standard bike like a demon with good tyres, but you won't get anywhere on a beast of a bike with sh!t tyres.

yeh im thinkning of forgettting about the rear and just put the 090 front and with an 092 rear, might toast the rear but o well

il have a go with the rear tho as iv got 2 weeks to see what its like, if i recon iv got more grip from the 092 then il put that back on

No offence, but the 092 is a cr@p track tyre and hardly worthy of a casual, ambling track day, certainly not a race!

Why skimp on the most important part of the bike? If it's a lack of funds then sell some of your bling! :poke:

im not skimping! this month im spending all my money on my race licence (£120) and a trackday (£130), I earn under£200 a month so cant afford new tyres at the moment!

iv got a 092 in good nick that I used as a road tyre over the winter on the wheel at the moment and a slightly squared 090 that i got off a mate for £15 (all i had left in the bank), a very good nickk scrubbed 090 front that cos tme £30 and a virtually brand new pirelli wet front that cost me £10

now what would be the best tyres to use for the trackday? (because there's no way i can afford to buy another) an 090 thats past its best or a very good nick 092?

:Soap:

no offence taken btw

I'll say that you can do a TD (your first?) on a BT092. but....it will be dead afterwards. They turn to snot and disappear.

a knackered 090 is not cool...but it mihgt work OK - I would worry about the profile of it and the age...so..I would go 092.

I have done Cadwell on an 092 and it was slimy, squirmy and grippy enough for me at that stage in my riding career.

I would not take one now as I am sure it would kill me.

Your first TD will be cool...so don't worry about tyres - fit the 090 front and 092 rear and it will be enough for you unless you are the new messiah :poke:

Saying that - Cammo is right...but he races and ha been doing tracks for a while..

ok iv decided as soon as i get my bike back in one piece im gona get the 090 rear fitted and see how it is, its like new on the sides just a bit low in the centre so if its an improvement on the 92 iv been riding on over the winter il keep with it, if not back on will the 092 go and il do the track day like that

its only my second td so im not gona be settign the world on fire, the rear advantage i see in it is that its a track i plan to race so i just wana learn the track and see what the bike will do now (after all the work iv been doing)

Well iv just come back from my first proper track day (well first on a real race track) and it was awesome, we got so much track time none of us could manage to do the last session , the 8th 15 min session castle combe is an awesome track tho and i found even though its very fast you can keep up with 1000's quite well

each session i tried to set myself a goal after i found the first was to over welming concentrating on so many things

the first session was a haze of chasing after my mates (one on fireblade, one on 1098 and one on a hypermoto) so session 2 was all about lines, 3 was learning the gears for each corner. 4 was a flat out before lunch trying to tie sections of corners together and proper corner speed then after lunch i was brakeing later and later (resulted in having to go strait through the chicanes about 5 times throughout the day) 6th and 7th session were about learning were learning were not to brake late to cary more corner speed out by the end of the day i was nackered lol

the track is great but on a 400 alot of it is flat out ead on the tank kinks iv tried to do an onboard lap described so here we go

across start head on tank flat out arse into the bump stop toes in wating for 14k to kick the enxt gear down there's a flat out right kink thats quite bumpy and im told on a 1000's its shit scary but on a 4 its not problem, just hold on and ride the bumps but stay tight to the right then there a blind left hander that dives down to a big right hander, the big bikes are letting off as they get to the 3 2 1 on the left but im flat out leaning left until i see the 321 of the right hander then down a gear on the brakes down 2 more go deep inot the corner for a late apex and hard over onto you right side (was knee and toe down together alot here) this line gives you great drive out onto a small strait before the first chicane, head on tank waiting for brake point second of the 321 boards down 2 gears hard onto right then flick over onto left stay tight to the chicane for grip the aim out to the left side of the wide track toward the wall gives you a great line into the fast right hander (i overtook a 1098 ridden well here because of this line) then a very small strait and into a flat out left short strait then a big right hander lots of lines in here and a great over taking place easy to underbrake people and carying speed isnt so important cos there is a a right chicane soon after this, brake lae into this chicane and get on the power quickly to get drive out into a flat out right kink down towards the bus stop a rather nasty right left that i found you get more exit speed if you brake early and get on the power mid corner you can caryy alot of speed into the last right hander, a nasty tightening bend that has a very late apex so again go deep power on early and head on the tank over the line.

how was that (sorry about grammer jo)

iv bought a cd's worth of pictures of me and will post the best up when it arrives

I was the only 400 there and there were only 3 600's one cbr600rr and cbr600f ridden very well and a hornet 600 racer who was easy pray for me (often passing him on the straits because of extra corner speed carried) the rest were 1000cc sport bikes and I was only ever passed by 4 different bikes and all only on the power. the 1098 a fireblade, the hypermoto (the rider has 10 years racing ducati's) and the cbr rr

tyres were great, thanks graeme france for getting the rear here in time but recon thye will only last another trackday weather was lovely

O i even got several spectators come over to me saying i was handing it to thos big bikes in the corners and doing some very exciting and close overtakes

o almost forgot i did have one off, a 100mph run across the grass as i was going round the outside of a 916 ridden shit and he just pushed me out ot eh kirb even tho he clearly saw me!!! all good tho tbh it was the war down lap lol
