Re: NC 24....about to start project (EDIT...started)
I'm not sure about the colour scheme yet. The guy that we bought the project from was planning on doing a simple black and gold scheme. That's why the wheels are gold and a lot of the other parts, like fork botttoms, calipers etc are all black.
The footpegs and hangers though have been powdercoated in a light silver flake too. The biggest problem will be when we come to sort out the fairings. At the moment we don't have any!!
So it's either collect some old ones and spray them up, or get some chinese ones from ebay. Unfortunately the chines ones don't come in black and gold.
i though something like this would go well with the wheels though...

but obviously for the NC24
Any ideas would be appreciated though

That looks quite cool. Painting just one colour would be heaps cheaper and I'm sure Brooky at Vinylmark would do you the decals in gold.
How about some gold flake in the black?
If you want a retro race theme JPS used to do they're F1 cars in black and gold. Search Google images "JPS F1".
Old school.

Re: NC 24....about to start project (EDIT...started)
ok it's been a while since the last update but things have been coming along nicely.
I managed to get the carbs cleaned up and degreased. Their definitely nowhere near a professional clean standard but all the moving parts are now gunk free and clean. I also cleaned up the handlebar alloy parts and resprayed the lever mountings and master cylinder parts.
Next we did a tidy up of the rear shock with a bit of paint and degreaser. It might need a full refurb later but we'll wait and see, since the main priority is getting the engine started.
I figured out how to "dry" assemble the forks, but I'm waiting for a few parts from david silver to finish them off (and put oil, seals in etc).
Dad has been really busy assembling the sub frame, undertray and mounting the rear footpegs. He's also finished spraying the ignition coil brackets, rear hub, radiator, oil cooler and fan. We then mounted the front sub frame, and got the clocks and cooling systems attached.
We got hold of a matching lock set pretty cheaply so we broke into the old tank (as there was no key), replaced the lock and then mounted the matching ignition barrel and fuse box.
The main source of expenditure was the stainless collector box that we ordered from rcv4. It looks amazing, almost like its chromed! It was expensive but worth it.
the main problem is that we're waiting for a number of special order parts from david silver. They're really simple things like o rings for oil cooler and thermostat etc but without them we can't get the engine going. We'll probably be posting a few more questions as things develop. I was going to go for 15w or 20w fork oil in the front forks as i've heard this can stiffen them up a bit. any advice here would be great.
Apologies for the lack of photos at the moment but I'll try and get some posted when I get back home.

Re: NC 24....about to start project (EDIT...started)
We're up in scotland, near edinburgh. I originally thought that I'd paint the collector box in HT paint, just to give it extra protection from corrosion, but after seeing how cool it is I'm going to hold off on doing that for a couple of years.
Choosing the nc24 was just luck really. I was keen on vfr400's since i saw they were voted into the top ten bikes of all time by mcn. The nc24 came up locally, for a good price, with a LOT of stuff already powder coated and ready to be reassembled. that was what made us go for it anyway.
