Charge it and leave it off the bike and check voltage after the same period, that can isolate wether it is the battery of the wiring faulty!Neosophist wrote:Magg sounds on the money here.
12.7 volts is almost fully charged (12.8 is fully charged from memory)
For it to drop that low so quick suggests its knackered.
The plug is probably getting hot becuase of shitty connections, clean off any corrosion before it melts.
If the battery is dud it wont take a good charge either so might cause the reg/rec to get hotter than normal.

okay guys, get ready for an anti-climax.
when working on the bike with my friend we kept coming to the same conclusion: that it didn't make any sense. especially since the seller had to ride for 45 minutes to drop it off at my place. my friend kept asking me if i was sure it had fuel, and we wagged the bike back and forth and heard some gas at the bottom of the tank. started thinking and got the idea that maybe the fuel we hear is from the reserve. Spot on... When switching to the reserve the bike started and all the "symptoms" disappeared.
managed to fill the tank up and now it starts and runs without any problem.
another lesson learned.

good good. worthwhile to test the charging system now its running as they are known to die easily, especially with an older battery.Enzymer wrote:okay guys, get ready for an anti-climax.
