My dad managed to have a look at the sprocket cover we have and compared it to some ebay pictures. Unfortunately the push rod connector type thing seems to be missing on ours. I guess I'll just get one from ebay soon. I've also discovered I'm missing a starter relay too.

Thats odd. The lever does come out but it's very odd for it to be removed.

It's a bit strange as the cable was still attached but there have been a few missing pieces on this project. Kind of expected when you buy a box full of bits. Luckily, there are 2 of some items. So will have a few spares at the end.

I asked an ebay seller to send me a photo of the back of the sprocket cover. This is what it should look like, right?




Could someone let me know whether everything seems to be there. If so I can go ahead and buy it.

Yeah thats right.. you can see the 'arm' there and the clutch cable connected to it.

ok. I ordered the sprocket cover, so hopefully when it arrives i can get it cleaned up and sprayed etc.


Meanwhile, my dad cleaned and stripped the light assembly. Cleaned up some of the plastics which we had to get separately and assembled it all together.



it's looking quite good now, and is actually the first part of the bike that's been assembled :)

I'm now starting to think a bit about the carbs. The previous owner said he and a friend cleaned them out and after looking inside the float bowls it seems they did a pretty good job.






I'm just wondering what to use on the outside. There seems to be a little bit of surface rust on some of the moving parts. I was thinking just to clean the rusted bits up with a very small wire brush and make sure all the moving parts are well oiled and free etc. any ideas would be appreciated.

Looking good!

It's quite difficult/time consuming to remove the surface corrosion from the carb bodies without totally disassembling them. You could take them all apart, but a bit fiddly putting all the linkages back in the correct order. Not one of my favourite jobs.

I think your original plan of just cleaning them up and oiling all moving parts is a better one!

Looking good there Cosgrove. Way ahead of me.
I think it's great you're dad's helping you. Get's a bit lonely in the garage night after night on you're own.
I'd agree with Cammo on the carbs. You can get stuff to clean them but the main thing is to make them work well. That's all they need to do. Save you're (and you're dad's) patience for the stuff that'll show when it's all put together. You can always go back to it one rainy weekend.
You're doing a great job mate. Looking forward to seeing it progress.

Wheel does look good.

With the carbs you could completely strip them (i mean no rubber bits or ANYTHING) get them dipped and painted (easiest way)

but tbf as long as they work and everythings free i'd just leave them, they sit under the engine and you can't see them.. maybe after you've finished and just want to be anal about clean things i'd look into it. :-)
