Re: Electrical problem
It doesn't often appear to be knackered, you have to test it to find out.
Re: Electrical problem
ive tested it when connected to the harness plug but isnt there a way to test it on its own disconnected?

Re: Electrical problem
19 volts is way too much, thought you measure 14.2 volts in an earlier post. Battery voltage should never exceed 15 volts.
I would recommend you not run the engine again until you replace the rect/reg, otherwise you could damage the ignition control unit. It has probably already damaged the battery which is why it will not hold a charge and possibly why the battery cap blew off. A rect/reg that has a failed output control section will not usually show any outward signs of damage. They can be tested but it is a complicated process and they cannot be repaired if faulty anyway.

Re: Electrical problem
14.2 volts is ok, a maximum any wear between 14 and 15 volts is normal but over 15 volts is a problem. Is the rect/reg single 5 pin plug oem type?

Re: Electrical problem
Best suggestion is to replace the rect/reg.

This is overcharging.Jac-al wrote:Still having problems. Just tested the battery at 5000rpm and it was at 19.3volts but when i try start the bike it just buzzes. Im sure the low beam relay mod i did is causin this?? Maybe i didnt do it right
Dont run the bike, the battey is most likely knackered too. Also replace the reg/rec.
After a new battery and reg/rec check the stator fully.
Member on here reently had the same and didnt replace the battery, killed the new reg/rec and the ignition box

Re: Electrical problem
just went for a 30km ride and stopped to put some juice, bike was off for 2min and when i tried to start it just buzzed. pomp joggie push started me an when i got home i tested the alternator and the reading was 1.6ohms. haynes says healthy it should be 0.1-1.0 ohms. what would be the cause of this?
