Re: Can I get brighter???
I like the idea of the extra power, but to be honest that's far too expensive for it to be a 'must have'. It does, however, explain why 60/35s from Honda are so pricey here in the UK. £17.40 each from DSS. These work out at £16.74, but the shipping would be another £13.10 to £20.36
Does anyone know for sure if the beam pattern is any different between H4 and H4R?

H4R bulbs are expensive in Japan too, 1800 yen is almost 16 quid.
There not made for many bikes and since there less in demand now the cost goes up.

Re: Can I get brighter???
Well, after a few hours of being very careful to get everything right, I now have a low beam relay. Probably not exactly the same method as other people, but it works. I didn't want to bastardise the switchgear wiring as it's fairly new, and as I'd already replaced one of the headlamp connectors which needed tidying from the previous bodge job, I didn't mind tidying that up and using it as required. I ran a 15A fused feed from the battery to the instrument bracket alongside the main loom and connected it to one of the switched pins on the relay. The low beam wires from the headlight connectors were cut, and the headlight side of both joined to the the other switched pin on the relay. One of the loom side white wires is used to energise the relay, the other is capped off. To complete the circuit, the earth wire from one of the headlamps is spliced into to provide the earth for the relay. The relay itself is taped to the high beam relay as it seemed the most obvious place to put it.
It's behaved so far. Proof of the pudding will be when it survives being out at 5.30am tomorrow... :s
