When you measured from cap to cap resistance what range was your multimeter set to? Would need to be on at least the 20k ohm range to get a reading. If resistance more than 20K ohm then remove leads from coils and measure the coil secondary resistance. If ok, then the caps are stuffed and you will need to get new leads from RO or buy the bits from the web site I listed and make your own. It is not difficult as the leads screw into the caps and the coiuls, no soldering required.

Re: Wont start nc 30
thanks for that magg the only problem i have with measureing the secondary coils is that they are just two little pronge sticking up and hard to get the ends of the test leads to touch them, any ideas? stopped at a bike shop today the guy there is pretty on the ball with nc30`s he kept saying that its really rare the coil packs and leads go and its most likely my cdi but dont want to be buying one of them if i dont need it ill have replaced ever part on the bike at the rate im going. Are the caps from that site you sent me do they all just fit a standard spark plug or do all spark plugs have the same size tops? cheers mate who thought nc30`s could be this much fun hey

You could try measuring the resistance from spark plug to spark plug. Connect leads, coil pack, caps and spark plug all together as normal. Then put multimeter leads on the centre electrode of each spark plug. Total resistance should not be more than 25k ohm, if the haynes data is to be believed. I say that because the haynes manual suggests that the caps are resistive but so are the spark plugs and usually you do not have both together.
Also measure resistance from wither spark plug centre electrode to the coil pack mounting points, should read infinite resistance.

Re: Wont start nc 30
Hi, your best bet is to prob take the plug caps off the leads and measure the resistance of the coil like that, some plug caps do have resistors in them so may throw your reading off quite a bit. Can you attach some wire to the meter probes and put that down the coil lead holes?
Just on another thought before you start buying parts, just make sure all the connections(like the ones on the cdi unit(its not a cdi but lets call it that) and from engine to loom) are well clean and put a bit of silicone grease or vaseline on them to keep waer out in future.
Hope you get it sorted.
Cheers
