I wouild think that if the carbs were from a crash damaged bike and had damage to the trottle cable housing they must have had one hell of a knock :o I would think that the carbs may well be twisted, and this could be the cause of your leak.
Have you done the HRC tap mod? if so have you used the right type of screw to seal the vacume draw off?

ah does that literally mean the rubbers marked 2#3 and 1#4 go next to eachother on each bank?

If the rubbers are marked for the appropriate cylinder then I don't think so.

Back left is #1, back right is #3.

Front left is #2, front right #4

I think.

cylinder layout is

Front
2 4
1 3
as each rubber is marked 1#4 for two and 2#3 for the other two i am figuring it should sit like this on the engine

front
x1 rubber marked 2#3 on cylinder No2 No4 cylinder x1 rubber marked 1#4

X1 rubber marked 1#4 on cylinder No1 No3 cylinder x1 rubber marked 2#3

what you think ?

If this does not cure my air leak - who has some rvf carbs for sale? Im sick of auctions ending early on fleabay

skinnydog - no hrc mod has been done to the tap, as for the carbs - im in two minds about the integrity of them , yes they may have been in a crash but like i said before , the carbs have no scrapes, gouges or any other damage to them - they were really mint and shiny when i got them which made me think it had a drop when removed or something. I have put a metal rule across the top plate / tray of the carbs and they seem true up top, as do they seem true when i measured butterfly side to the adjacent carb.

Have the inlet ports had any work done to them? have you checked for any hairline cracks where the carb rubbers seat?

I've always just matched the carb rubber number to the cylinder number.

It's not real logical when you think about the numbering of the pairs of rubbers, but it works for me (probably has more to do with the underside of the specific carbs). I think the arrow is supposed to point to the front of the bike also.

Having all of this correct has never made the carbs any easier to get on in my opinion!
