Not a good idea!

Ideally you need to test these combinations to at least redline in 4th gear on the road to see if any issues are present.

Revving it in neutral will hide many fuelling issues that will show up on the road with increased load on the carbs

point taken cam, i have been farting around all afternoon with these carbs today. i now have a setting that i am happy with enough to take her up the road one morning to test further.

i found the oem needles with one or two washers along with 120 jets all round was no good this fluffy range between 5 - 7k still existed.

so i decided to try the unknown needles, first tried the e clip in the third from bottom grove as rick suggested. i still had this fluffy area but seemed better than oem needles ( the taper is quite different on these needles to the oem )

so i removed them and then moved the clip to the 5th from bottom groove, this made the fuel terrible and the fluffy range increase from 5 - 7k to 3 1/2 - 7k

so i then tried the second from bottom groove, this greatly improved the fluffy area to between only 6 & 7k. i then tried all manner of washer combinations with these needles and could not get a 100% answer.

then my daughter came to see my......daddy whats this?......i then turn around to find one of the e clips for the needles is missing.....after a few seconds of calming down i politley asked her to go see what mummy is doing in the house.

so i decied to put the oem needles back in...but i tried three washers (1.5mm total) fired her up and she rev'd cleanly all the way to 10k! did not want to push her anymore while sat in neutral so will investigate this more when i take her up the road for a quick spin.

so i am now confused but happy. im not gonna mess anymore until i have taken her out on the road to get a real idea of how shes running.

though i think the unknown needles would be good after a lot of fettling, im not going to use them. think i will chuck them on ebay. does anyone know what these type of needles would cost to buy? so i have an idea what to get shot of them for?

have been meaning to up load a vid ,this is the first chance i have got. only took this for reference at home so not brilliant, didnt realise how loud the can is until you record and play it back.

you will hear she changes idle slightly when i walk over to her ( this has now been sorted ) but she runs cleanly all the way through the revs.....yay!

Looks good buddy and thanks for the information.
Have you taken it out for a spin yet?
Im expecting some 120 jets all round courtesy of Rick O and hopefully this will help me! Im not too sure where to start on the clip positions/number of washers. Obviously our setups could be different - I'll be running standard everything apart from a tyga full system - but I may start on what you concluded :)

Thanks
Hadrian

havent been out for a spin yet, still mroe work to do before i am happy. i am in majorca at the moment on honeymoon so is quiet hard to do anything over here!

though i do have some interesting pictures to upload when i get back! she does run nicely through the revs now in neutral but the big test will be on the road. once i get back i will try and get some more info up.

though currently it is 32 deg over here and i am propping up the bar, maybe hard to get me home!
