ummmm... average 5,000-7,000 a year.
the original kit bulbs failed 5 months ago, replacements were not expensive. £20-30

1)the pros still out weigh the cons for me, much brighter headlight to look at, people "see" you better and tend to move out your way quicker (motorways), less people tend to pull out on you that *I* have noticed.
2) at night the cats eyes light up further down the road than before.
3) each bulb draws 35W, compared to 50W for jap standard or 55w UK standard... or 80W with the old bulbs i had :0) !

Have you got any photos of the wiring ie where you positioned everything in the end, route taken for wiring, etc

all you can see is a black tube with connectors out each end. :0) made sure everything was done right with proper loom tube.
when i get the spare ballasts i'll see if i can get some pics.

routing from memory is;
under pillion seat houses ballasts and controller relay
1 set of connectors from each ballast to bulbs under riders seat
all wires now in to loom tube 3/4" diameter stuff and snakes its way to the front of the bike.
it sits to the left of the bike, inside subframe and main frame where the fuel tap is, surfaces next to the carbs and then follows the route the speedo cable comes out over the rad.
now at this point i had the loom run in-between the fork leg and head stock then end of it cable tied to the main stay with a 4 way connector sitting each side of the main stay that then plug in to the bulbs. the bulbs had their connectors removed and 4 ways fitted.
the only ends that have to be touched are now easy to access with out stripping panels off the bike.

if i did the wiring again... id use thinner wires for the earth and live to the servo motors 16/0/3 is thicker than needed.

hmmmm got 3 ballasts to play with.. hooked them up.... nothing! well something.. 4 beeps in quick succession! never head them before and coming from the front of the bike! not fuse box or switch gear!

tried ballasts with out being hooked up to my loom with a spare set of bulbs.. and they work!.. all 3 ballasts.. didnt test the old ones! ... yet!

so.. i am thinking that somewhere between the ballast and bulb connections the wires have crossed over (i made sure i kept the 2 ballast wire pairs separate. the black negative wire does now share an earth with the other ballast. but they kinda did before i did all this!
i am going to borrow the digital tester from work and start checking the pin outs!

What do you think of this kit?

Cheaper option available?

Looks ok to install.. just a bit unsure about fitting the bulbs into the nc23 headlights..

I am fed up with not being able to see at night especially in the rain...

Cheers..

expensive!
you can get Hi/Lo H4 slim line ballast kits for less on flea bay (NOT china!)

"mid slim digital ballasts"
= middle size between the bulky ballasts i 1st bought and the really slim line ones.

on my NC29, i converted the headlight units them selves to accept an H4 bulb.
dremel tool and glue was needed.
no one confirmed than a NC23 headlight unit was the same as a NC29s so i cant say if the mod will work on a NC23!

trust me when i say that what ever kit you get,, its H4 bulb type you need. most people just lop off the lower 2 tabs off the bulbs. others also use a shim (USA ebay) to bring the bulb aim back to centre.
