Thanks for your help think I risk it with a cheap one!
It was ran up to just below the red line it has never worked but by testin the fan on the frame I know this works and the fan should have kicked in when it's just below the red line.

The best test would be a pan of boiling water and a multimeter but it sounds safe to say that is is dead.
There was somebody a while ago who "tested" the fan (not the switch) by earhing to the frame and ordered a new ones as he thought it was dead.. wasnt letting it get hot enough aha!
Pricey part but important.
